Old Everton Pictures

….you mean the player taking the shot? Eddie Thomas left Everton in 1960, Alex Young joined in Nov ā€˜60 so their careers might not have overlapped. We played Arsenal in Apr ā€˜61 & we played them in Sept ā€˜61 when Billy Bingham scored.

I’d say it’s April ā€˜61 game, Temple, Young and Collins played in a 4-1 victory. Temple didn’t play in the September game and I’d be quite sure that’s him in the pic.

Looks like Bobby Collins to me.
Right @Eggs & co talking to my older brother 77 years old & emailed him that photo - definitely not Bobby Colins according to him as he only wore size 4 boots plus he was a stockier build -
He saw Eddie Thomas play he was born in Newton Le Willows outside Whiston, & did transfer to Blackburn Rovers in a plus cash deal that fetched a certain Roy Vernon to the blues -
So he suggested I looked the game up in my bible of fixtures & scorers, & I found the game October 3rd at home to Arsenal 1959/60 - we won 3-1 in 1959 - scorers - Bobby Collins - Bobby Laverick - Eddie Thomas - Eddie was an inside forward & looking at the fixtures at that time quite a prolific scorer for us -

So its either Collins or Thomas - not Jimmy Harris as another poster mentioned ....

My older brother reckons its not Bobby Collins as of the stature of the player size of the boots etc - so he feels its Eddie Thomas as my older brother saw a lot of blues games back then with my late father - he also suggested to me Arsenal's kit may have been a late 1950's kit as in the photo so 1959 /60 Alex Young must have just signed & Derek Temple is also in the photo - no Roy Vernon

Anyway thanks for your input, I put all that to my older brother so he suggested to look it all up after he googled a bit on dates- the photo is not a good clarity either - I wonder if @ManxBrian has it as a goal in his collection of goals?

…but Alex Young signed in Nov 1960, so he can’t be on a pic from October 1959? Neither Young or Temple played in the 3-1 win you’re quoting yet they’re both on the photo. It’s certainly not the game you suggest, Joey, and I’m still sticking with Bobby Collins from the game I quoted.

Yep your correct on the signing of Alex Young, but I cannot find Collins scoring v Arsenal at home in that era - over to you again ?

I have seen the photo in question before but, like you could not identify the person in question. I have a couple of match reports and photos from the Arsenal games suggested but they dont help

…but you’re assuming it was a goal but it wasn’t. Indeed, @ManxBrian has confirmed it was Collins with another angle of the pic. Certainly Bobby Collins, effort saved by the keeper. Sorted ;)

…it just looks like Bobby Collins, I’d be quite certain it was him. Couldn’t quite understand the debate.
The photo I posted is not of great quality- @ManxBrian are close up it's solved any rate as you did - My brother reckons Eddie Thomas was an ok inside forward no where near the class of Roy Vernon though .... he did not succeed at Rovers either .....
The debate had jimmy Harris scoring -
Please do not be wise after the event that close up by @ManxBrian who I linked in helped to solve it ok .... never in a month of Sundays is it easy to identify the player in my original photo even @ManxBrian states that - You were spot on over the GV signing date & that led me to believe I was incorrect OK .....
