Didn't mind Tommy, not a bad lad for a wool.
They used to play such a high line (nothing new under the sun, as is said, it just gets re-invented) that Lawrence was the first goalie to play as a sweeper, aka, the first overlapping keeper.
You used to see many pictures of a goal against them, it's just Lawrence on his own, with the ball in the net and the scorer wheeling away in triumph...and in the far background there would be some one, usually rowdy yates, with their arm up appealing for offside.

....I always assumed he was born and raised in Scotland but noticed your ‘Wool’ reference. I never knew his family moved to Warrington when he was a lad. You learn something new everyday.

When he played for Scotland he said there had to be 2 interpreters - one for him and one for the jocks

..and the Gwladys St used to sing “oh, West is better than Lawrence”. Chants have changed a bit over the years.

...very sad breaking news that Tommy Lawrence has died aged 77. Clearly well thought of in the Blue half of the City as we discussed very recently.
