In the early 70s, used to gather there post match with the blues from St Ambrose Speke...(the red section would be there the nextweek)
The landlady would provide a big plate piled high with buttered bread, we'd each bring in a bag of chips and proceed to pour beer down our necks and demolish the mountain of bread and butter.
About 5.25 the Footy Echoes would arrive, by 6 we were in taxis into town, where more drink would be taken.
 

Half of the entrance gate still there. The Dunlops factory was built on the zoo land, the Plough pub to the right. Houses eventually built on the Dunlop’s land after they closed. Wonder what they’ll build when the houses go!
They have bocked the main feature by building houses - nothing will change - it is a common thing, becoming worse under planning which they want to ease the laws ....

Half of the entrance gates were knocked down by Dunlops, to make space for the factory, my dad worked there in the sixties The remaining right hand ticket office was used as a pizza place for a while. No respect for history!!
