Old Photos Of Where You Live

….lovely post.

Remember the parks and gardens were all so well looked after, they mostly had ‘cocky-watchmen’ and perhaps folk had stronger values back then. Public services decimated, you rarely see green places being tendered these days.
So true mate. A steady decline all brought about by the new wave liberal thinking powers that be. Values started eroding very quickly from the 70's onwards and it just accelerated. The suburbs of Liverpool are now decimated and and old fashioned pride has vanished. However the good news is I think people have had enough of the decline and new oasis's are popping up more and more.

I’m not sure that this is strictly true, as I believe many areas are now purposefully allowed to go back to nature so to speak, in order to promote/protect insect and bird species. If you walk down Priory Road for instance, the park looks completely overgrown but I feel fairly sure the gardens on the Anfield side will be well planted and cared for. I walk the dog across the road in the cemetery and as I’ve said in another thread the lads work very hard to keep that in trim. They still leave areas untouched (don’t impinge on graves). I might be completely wrong, but it appears to me to be modern management rather than neglect.

You are partly right. I well remember the introduction of partial mowing and re-wilding from my working days alongside our office botanist, but cost-cutting and straightforward neglect have also played a big part in the degradation of our open spaces.

Anyway, nobody has picked up on the smelly brickwork comment, but I can recall it vividly looking at some of the pics provided by Eggs and Joey66. I really value their efforts.

I wasn't going to post on the above - until I saw below...

When I was an apprentice I worked with a guy who himself was an apprentice then at Lairds
He remembered being severely P.O. when he didn't win a ticket in the raffle to go on that maiden voyage.
