Opinion of Kenwright from an outsider

I'm a Sunderland fan so I obviously have no connection to the club but I'm interested why Bill Kenwright is so unpopular amongst supporters?

In an age of soulless, foreign ownership, I'd have thought a genuine local supporter would be a a well liked figure.

Does it go back long term or recently?

I don't think nationality has any impact on whether someone is a good or bad owner.

Bill doesn't own the club either anymore tbf. But when he did, there was no real investment in the team at a time when we had the nucleus of a good side, and he also tried to take us out of the city to Kirkby.

He is unpopular with a noisy but sizable group of supporters.

And it goes back a few decades. About the only thing folk agree on is that he is an actual fan.

ffs what is about 'local' that makes some people think someone will be good at their job.
much like benitez, just cos he has a house in the area is not a reason to be in their current posts.

24/7 investment search which was basically Kenwright knocking back any potential buyer who didn't accept him staying on as chairman (apparently Qatar's investment vehicle that owns PSG were interested in us at one stage)

Selling Rooney and Arteta to pay banks off

Involving his dodgy mates like Philip Green in the club behind the scenes

If it wasn't for Moyes working miracles on a shoestring sell to buy budget every season we would have likely been in League One and crippled with debt.

He’s a wolf in sheeps clothing who’s made millions out of Everton and used the club for his social standing, without ever really contributing much and overseeing the longest barren period in the clubs history.
