Oscar Pistorius trial discussion

That's just not true though. The only 'evidence' you have that has led you to that conclusion is that because he's white and rich living in South Africa everything must go his way. The magistrate was black and his reasons for granting bail are perfectly reasonable when you look at the circumstances.

The Welsh columbo folks.

I know what your saying but he's suggested a set of circumstances that led to her death that effectively exonerate him of 'murder', opinions on those actions anyway aside. Lees provided circumstances that were rubbished by 'experts' at the time and she also seemed casual, relaxed and dressed inappropriately but it transpired that her set of circumstances although unlikely where actually true. Thats where I've got the comparison from mate.

Even if his story was true, which I don't believe in the slightest (Internet judge, guilty as charged), he's not exonerated. Just because you commit a pre meditated murder of the wrong person doesn't make you innocent. Brb I'm just off down the village to murder Mr Jones, and then use the defence of I thought it was Mr Evans to exonerate my self......

While someone robbing yiu deserves to go to jail, we don't have the death sentence for burglary in the civilised world.

I'm fairly sure you're allowed to shoot somebody if they come into your house in the US. Could be wrong.

Allowed probably isn't the right word.

But you definitely have the right to protect your property and if they are a threat to you and your family (threat is always up to interpretation). It's not a shoot on sight clearance, but way more lenient than it seems in the UK (based on what I've read in this thread)

Gun laws are something that have typically been addressed at the state level rather than nationally, so there isn't a single answer for the States. While I'm not an expert by any means, I believe that Texas and some of the Mountain West states are more open to this whereas when I lived in New York I remember several prosecutions of homeowners who were determined to have gone beyond the pale in responding to a burglar.

I dont think anyone would want to kill anyone mate but if you get awakened in the middle of the night by 4 men turning your house up with knives/crowbars etc. and your kids sat up terrified in their beds I dont think anybody should be sent down for killing a burglar in the heat of the moment end of the day you do what you can to protect you and your family. If you take self defence away from someone you may aswell put them in shackles and in a cotton field.

Its a place I have never been to, but I know plenty who have.. but SA looks like some bonkers place to live dosent it ??

Mate went there a couple of summers ago and said he went out drinking one night, got lost and ended up walking through this township s***ting himself. Managed to flag down a taxi eventually.

Wouldn't catch me going there.

My Dad loves Cape Town.. says its ace.. been a few times..
I have been to some scary places, and I just dont fancy SA..

Like you said, both sides will put up very good legal arguments, whether or not he done it now isnt really the issue. Its whether it can be proven.

My old man goes to south africa at least 3 times a year, never any trouble

went there 2 years ago myself - stayed in santon, cape town and kruger - no problems at all

not to say they dont happen

back on the point - I think he's guilty as sin but money will get him off
