Our worst signings

Cottee did indeed cost big money at the time and came with huge expectations.
Never really hit the dizzying heights of his debut hatrick.

Flattered to deceive a lot of the time, but still managed on average 15 goals per season.

His 2 goals in the 4-4 against the RS mean he'll always be fondly remembered by many a fan.

Certainly nowhere near some of the dog turd we've signed.

Just checked back I'm comfortable with his inclusion, 1988-1994 he was with us.

Far to many to choose before Cottee. Player who came in as one of the four signings that year, neil mcdonald. He was crap.
From 88 onwards that great side was breaking up and signings from then on were all pretty poor.
My eyes will never recover from seeing an Everton frontline of brett angell and stuart barlow together. The day it really dawned on me we had gone.

I thought he played well at full back.
I'd say moderate - while it's true we've had worse, we've also had far better. I know Mike Summerbee enjoyed playing against him! Still a bewildering signing to have your club record fee player sat watching in the stands until he was squeezed into the team at left-back.

To be fair, Henry was a decent pro and became a very good friend of HK, and went on to win a championship medal with Derby after he left us.

Ill see that and raise you Stephen Hughes.
Per Kroldrup all day long. Tall young CB, cost £5m (about £30-40m in today’s money), couldn’t head a ball and was like a shaking dog when the oppo goalie launched it forward. From memory think he played 2 games and we lost 4-0 in one of them (Bolton home??). Sold for a loss soon after and Alan Stubbs resigned

Kroldrup was always hilarious, due to the fact before the proper internet, you still used to get fellas "ITK", in the concourse spouting the.

"We weren't in for Kroldrup, we scouted Simon Kjaer, but got the two mixed up". lol I know we're a joke, but surely no one believed that.

That would’ve been mad as Kjaer was about 15 at the time.

Villa away....Boxing day :(.....

I don't remember Kroldrup getting a second game. Up there with Glenn Keeley in terms of length of Everton career....

The ‘Chinese lads’ came in as part of the sponsorship with Kejian. Li Tie was actually a decent player for us, but then broke his leg very badly which ended any chance of being at a Premier level. Li Wei Feng wasn’t good and basically only played in an absolute emergency next to Peter Clarke. Rodrigo had impressed on trial then got crocked.
Best comment I ever read about the other lad was when we signed him, someone wrote...."he played in the back four in the Chinese World Cup team who lost 4-0 to Germany. Li Wei Was the one who didn't look quite as bad as the other three"....

Not exactly a ringing endorsement. Didn't he get injured and then go back to China for surgery, and was never seen again ? Li Tie bagged a fantastic goal pre-season up at Rangers I think.....

I think you might be right? I swear to god those early Moyes training sessions had them juggling chainsaws or something because lads seemed to get injured every week

It was Villa away on Boxing Day. In the middle of regular 4-0 thumpings so it wasn't all down to him. Think other than that he played half a game against Millwall in the league cup.

I mean he obviously could head a ball, he had a long successful career at the highest level. God knows what went on with him.

That RB HK signed from Tranmere, Tony somebody.
Tony Thomas?

I think he is in some legal trouble right now.

He had one good game at least, the Bolton game were Ferguson got his first hat trick and was his first game as captain. He was like Cafu that day.
