I think it was down to the media more than anything, the usual pundits (Hansen, Shearer, Lineker, even Wright) didn't know anything about him and Sven was using him in a very limited role, filling in for others. He'd never really had that chance to impress.

Only player that turned up half the time in 06. Looked the business like Ledley King did vs France when we got beat last minute. Mediocre players look the testis when surrounded by incompetence. Shame his injuries have cost him, I want to know what his holiness was doing shelling out 18 big uns on a player with bad form for knee injuries.
