I know, I know. But just out of interest, lets say he is available for the reported £3m and £85,000 a week (say £55,000 and topped up with appearences), would you see that as a good deal?

[Edit] On a free, for the reported £55,000 a week, would you see that as a good deal?

I think his best days are behind him now, Danny. Perhaps if we were desperate I'd take him on 30k a week, but certainly not more.

I think he requires chances to be created for him and our midfield aren't really all that good at that. I'm not sure he has much of a future anyway but he's not the right kind of player for us.

I cant see how you'd say that Bruce. Owen would mop up with those balls being humped upfield by Yobo. I can just hear it now: Yobo to Owen...1-0 Everton.

hopefully if Arteta carries on in centre mid and plays the way we know he can, then that could change......crossing fingers:dodgy:

I think we need to look carefully at why he would be likely to be available:

1. He has never been as good as anyone (especially his agent) has said he is

2. He has never merited the kind of wages he has been on for the past decade

3. They got shot because of 1 and because they realised they could make a make a packet selling him on and relieving themselves of the problem of 2

4. Real also got shot when they realised 1, 2 and 3 and that Newcastle hadn't

5. If Newcastle want to get shot it is because they have realısed 1-4 and think they can cut their losses finding another club which hasn't.

6. He requires a certain style of support which involves building a team round him. I can just see the scene at Finch Farm where in order to practice those speculative long balls they have been forced to substitute a whippet with its back legs tied together wearing a wee micky mask because he's injured again.

7. He turned us down twice saving us a lot of money. We should return the favour.

8. I'd feel physically sick if we signed him.
