The FA have dismissed Kennys apeal against a nine month ban for drugs use. Kenny had argued that the drug he took was for a bad chest......................although the panel accepted his argument they say he should have told the club doctor................clearly he is not Italian!!!!

How long did Ferdinand get for missing a test? Seem a bit draconian in this country regarding supposed drug infringements. It is not like they are admitting to taking crystal meth when they have a book to flog is it.

Feel for the guy, they admitted that while it was in his system when it shouldn't have been, he didn't take anything to purposefully enhance his performance. He'll be out for the majority of this season & his contract's up at the end of it so he could have his career ended early just because he's let his guard down for a minute.

He's always seemed a bit dozy & while he should have been more careful, it just seems like the punishment is too strong for the crime.

performance enhancers are one thing, but if he's just taking pain killers theres no reason why it should any of the FA's business.

plenty of american athletes get in trouble for marijuana offenses and stupid things like that. the way i see it, if they're confident that the drug would negatively affect their athletic performance, then have fun. of course, most professional athletes would avoid it with or without drug testing, i just think what an athlete does on his own time for recreation is no sporting association's business.

He had cough medicine which raised the levels of something in his bloodstream that would help his performance. It wasn't as if he necked a couple of tablets with a view to making him play better but he did have banned substances in his body & that's why they punished him.

I feel for him because even the authorities said they realised he didn't do it intentionally but they're making an example to show that under no circumstances will it be allowed. I can see why they've done it but I do have sympathy for him because it was a genuine mistake

With him being a keeper it surely wouldn't give him as much as a boost as an outfield player regardless of what he took as they don't run much so come full time aren't as knackered

What a load of old [Poor language removed].

I mean, how the hell is any kind of drug in a cough mixture going to enhance performance as a goalkeeper?

Will he be able to kick the ball from one end of the field into the opposing goal like Hot Shot Hamish?

I would like to gather all the FA tossers, take them to Mecca and have them parade around wearing nothing but a sandwich board saying -"Allah? What ******* Allah?"

Then see how harshly they get treated, and if or not they like it.

Seems a ridiculous situation being hung out as an example to others, sad thing is he is out of contract at the end of the season with no gaurentee of another. I hear he is a bit of headcase as it goes.

Its double standards though, the power should be take3nof the national authorites and dealy with by either Uefa or Fifa - how can Kenny get such a lengthy ban while Cannavaro gets what 4 days.

I wonder would Gerrard or Beckham have been made an example of this like this - i doubt it after the bags they made of the Ferdinand affair.

Well Gerrard would have gone into the hearing. Touched his ear twice and gone 'Errrrrrrrrrr, well yer, errr, know like' - and that would have been all he would need to say.

Would probably want to have change the song in the waiting area too mate!

Shearer had to be worst though - what that man got away with over the years.

Imagine if 'cough syrums' were made to enhance performance though. It is the other side of that coin that needs preventing.
Someone mentioned numerous American athletes getting caught with traces of canna in their samples. I recall the excuse some Canadian snowboarder (gold winner late 90's winter olympics) gave was that he inhaled passively and due to the small amounts found the authorities decided not to take his medal away.
Kenny has got the shitty end of the stick on the backs of the real problematic dopers that use because of greed. (Their own or their advisers). Would be fascinating to see what would happen to a British 'top four/"five" ' player in this instance.
