Probably come across as a tad harsh on my part - but Team GB really seem to have flattered to deceive in the track & field this year. Only Hodgkinson with a gold and Kerr with a silver so far..
Do you have a link for this (not doubting you, just interested to see more)?Fun Fact : Each Team GB Gold so far costs £20,486,473.80 while each Aussie Gold costs $657,142.85.

It is a disingenuous comparison, team gb have taken more athletes in more sports I reckon, and compare rowing funding all those boats vs cycling taking about 20 cyclists for instance. 4 years supporting the coxed 8 is a lot of money and people.….i think the events probably explain lots, with the Aussies winning loads in the pool. GB equestrian clearly very expensive, the cycling bikes cost £25k each etc.
Just for some perspective - the old adage you have to be in it to win it comes into play when you look at the olympic team squad sizes.Probably come across as a tad harsh on my part - but Team GB really seem to have flattered to deceive in the track & field this year. Was hoping the cycling would see us leapfrog the French and Aussies but I was basing that off having last watched the cycling in 2016 and 2012Just for some perspective - the old adage you have to be in it to win it comes into play when you look at the olympic team squad sizes.
I for one remember staying up until 2am in our disastrous 1996 olympics to watch Christie's attempt to retain his 100m title and crashing out on false starts and only Redgrave managing to bag a gold.
Okay the lottery money has been a game changer of late and since China 2008 we have proper over achieved in the medals table so going into the last 4 days 5th in the table is pretty good return in my eyes.
Although pipping the aussies monster squad would be a nice bonus
