Paris Olympics 2024

Team GB 7th in the end just ahead of South Korea.

[working off a likely funding for the whole GB team of £224M] that''s £16M per gold medal or £3.5M per podium medal.

I wouldn't prune away at less 'box office' events and their athletes, l'd seriously look at the cycling now as well as the sailing and start withholding cash until they perform again.

Cycling - £25M spent for the return of 1 gold medal.

Sailing - £22M spent for the return of 1 gold medal

….from a GB perspective, that gold from Tom Pidcock in the mountain bike was the best imo.

He had a puncture, was way behind but not only caught the French leader, he overtook him close to the finish. Alex Yee also deserving a mention for a similar finish in the Men’s Triathlon.

Pidcock deserved two Gold Medals. One for his super human effort clawing that race back. I was exhausted just watching him. The other for the French and @davek Booing him.

It's obvious now we deliberately cornered the cycling market from 2012 onwards to guarantee a bumper medal haul for our home games now the rest have caught us up and passed us
. We should start pumping money into events the Yanks, Aussies and China don't care for now if we're hoping for medals in L.A.

Did they just say "no boxing in LA"

Shambles.

To be reviewed but what a joke to even have that. Been olympic sport since 1904. And the list of boxers who went on to be champions is endless.
The only thing they need to review are the judges. They throw out some weird results.
It wont be a proper olympics with no boxing. And i think they'll realise that.

They need to sort out the judges, blatant BS from judges, there needs to be an appeal process if you think the judges have engaged in shenanigans.

Exactly. A gold is a gold no matter the event.

That kid who won trampolining gold and the other who won climbing a wall is no worse than gold on the track.

I must say, this Games have been great.

I always considered Los Angeles in 1984 to be the best I'd seen because I saw it as the first of the very modern Olympics - Moscow 4 years earlier looked prehistoric in comparison - but Paris maybe surpasses LA '84.

Is there a genuine reason for it to not be included? Seems ridiculously unfair to deny the young boxers who do a sport; which require more effort and discipline than shooting or the dancing horses.

There's prestige that needs to be taken into account, if Irelands womens relay team held on for silver or bronze last night there'd have been an argument for that being out best result.
