My arl fella maintains Baines is the best full back he's seen play for Everton - as far as left backs go, he says Baines > Wilson > Van Den Hauwe in that order as the best three we've had.
I think you can make a solid argument that Baines is the best player, pound for pound, that we've had in the Premier League era and he's the only player of the era you could say has a shout of being in our all time XI
….its all about opinion, Ray Wilson and Karl Schnellinger disputed discussion as to the best LB in world in ‘60s. Wilson played in two World Cups, playing every game in ‘62 and obviously being a central part of the team that won it in ‘66.
I’m 68 and Wilson is one of only 3 world class players I’ve seen in my life at Everton. There’s nobody even close to Wilson being the best LB in Everton’s history. This discussion is about 2nd best and I’d have VdH. As much as I rated Baines he wouldn’t even make my subs bench.
