Which formation would you like us to play?

We really do not have the players to play much else.

A 4-2-3-1 if played well and with the right players is a good formation, but you need very good players in the key areas, which are the double pivot and the fullbacks.

Agreed with most of the article.

Only issues are Gana, who would be an upgrade, not a concern at that #6 position and since Beni can do everything Morgan can do, that's not a problem position. I also disagree with the characterization of Walcott, who seems more naturally inclined to play as an inside forward, not as a winger. Lookman can already play that way and would be a perfect fit. Bolaisse just becomes a value bench option as we have no wide player other than him.

I would look at this in terms of what is possible in year one.

CB. I actually think the CBs might be more important than the FBs honestly, from what I've seen of Shaktar. I'm also assuming Fonseca can organize a defense, which would dramatically change our squad even with current personnel. But the ability to bypass the middle of the field and play to the attacking mids or striker is key b/c you can't just rely on a single 8 to do that or even FBs. We have ZERO ability to do that at CB. Holgate has the tools, but his decision making is garbage (can learn as a backup) and frankly, our collective decision making as a team is probably our biggest issue. I think you gotta hope that Funes Mori or Keane can imitate Ordets under better instruction.

Beyond that, obviously a box-to-box is essential (Davies as a spot starter a decent sub) and a LB with pace AND stamina to get back and forth would help a lot.

So in a single year, is it possible to get an 8, a 3, and a 4/5 that can distribute AND mark a quicker player in space? Alfie Mawson is not the answer, though. We need someone more dynamic and frankly, better. Doucoure would be amazing. Wilshire is not a good enough defender or a reliable enough player IMO to play as a box-to-box. A LB could be had for a decent price I would think.

Just keep in mind, we are counting on guys like Lookman, Onyenkuru, Vlasic, Keane/Funes Mori, Cenk Tosun, to contribute, which is indeed a risk. But hey, in year one, it's all you can ask for. But I think we could have a MUCH better team in a single year time with the right 3-4 buys.

Some Press reports tonight saying Shakhtar offering Fonseca £8m a year to tempt him to stay. Hope his wish to work in the Prem is a really strong one!!
