Paulo Fonseca

Rumours were that we tried to bring him in before getting Allardyce, but Shakhtar knocked us back mate.
The 'accepted' story is that both he and Silva were sounded out and pursued by Moshiri after our initial 6 month offer to Allardyce was turned down by the fat man. When it became clear that both Watford & Shakhtar didn't want to play ball slap-bang in the middle of a domestic season (and a CL campaign in Shakhtar's case) we went back to Allardyce with a better offer as a last resort/bid of desperation due to our form under Unsworth being awful at the time. Also explains why the whole bloody ordeal took six weeks to settle.

I bet he's desperate to get here to work with the likes of Baines and Jagielka and Williams and the rest of the Everton dressing room Anarcho-Syndicalist cadre.

And what new manager wouldn't wish to inherit the sublime cone laying skills of Duncan Ferguson and Franny Jeffers?

I heard he's particularly interested in getting the inside scoop about our promising youngsters from smack ed Jose Baxter.

Have we even been linked to this fella, or juju wishful thinking?
Something from the Independent last November to whet the appetite.

"Everton's search for a new long-term manager became even harder last night as it emerged Shakhtar Donetsk blocked their move for Paulo Fonseca.

Everton had targeted Fonseca to take over, whether now or after Sam Allardyce's planned interim stint, and their owner Farhad Moshiri even met with Fonseca and agent Jorge Mendes over the weekend to discuss the move.

But Shakhtar have blocked the move for now, just as Watford stopped their Portuguese manager Marco Silva from taking over at Goodison Park.
Fonseca is in the final year of a two-year contract he signed with Shakhtar in 2016 and the Ukrainian club are still trying to convince him to sign a new one.

Fonseca is thought to be keen on a move to Everton, so much so that he turned down a possible move to Jiangsu Suning in China recently.

But so was Marco Silva, and Watford stopped him from taking over at Goodison Park even after Moshiri made clear he would pay more than £10million in compensation for the 40-year-old.

While Everton could return for Fonseca or Silva in 2018, they need a manager for the rest of this season, and they are speaking to Sam Allardyce."

Delving into the history books again Dave. Tell you what though regardless of his playing skills, Fergie was 100% Everton.

It's gotten to the stage now that I've let myself be overcome with anticipation in this guy coming in when there's a good chance he'll end up being swerved for Silva, which would be a crushing disappointment. Haven't felt this way since Emery two years ago.
