Damn the lot of you...

Just spent £200 on a new PSU and monitor. I'm never tech talkin' again. You'll be the ruin of me...

And MG...just do it. If you're going to switch from a 7950, the LEAST you should do is a GTX 260 mate, otherwise it's really not worth it down the road 'cause you'll be right back in the same boat in 8-10 months, IMHO. You really don't need a whole new PC mate, your proc is fine...you're going to get a much bigger jump off a new GFX card. A new proc is mainly going to get you better rendering or vid/audio encoding speeds but with the GTX 275 (I think it's actually the 9800 GTX+ and up) you could use some new progs out now that use the GTX's GPU to do the encoding faster than your proc mate. You can check out this page for examples of what they're doing with GPU's now:

Alright...if you don't hear from me later on or tomorrow it's because I spilled my beer inside my case. Doh...

You don't find many of these things knocking around, so I thought I would post it for reference.
It gives an indication of power consumption for many cards, and should help you to decide if your psu can handle a particular card.

I'm not sure on each components power requirement in your pc, but it's safe to presume the card consumes the most. There are many cards that will take up more power than the 3870x2, but you can't afford them on your budget unless you won the lottery tonight.

NB: Most PSU manufacturers apparantly recommend you run their PSUs at 60% of load.

This means the GTX 260 ( should you buy it ) will itself consume 47.3% of your 550w psu at peak.

Your Intel Core 2 duo E6600 is apparantly 65watts.

You'll need to ask Dylan about the other stuff as that depends on what rails they're on according to some anorak site, but you're already at 60% if my maths is right.
