A good idea academically speaking in that it might give an idea of any pattern that exists within the deviants' mind.
But what would the information be used for? It might be less useful in practice than at first you might think.
Dont understand Neb?
The information would be primarily used to determine the effectiveness of CBT Programmes/SOTP etc.
Meaning the information is collated and some type of psychotherapy is then used, where the patient is challenged in some way regarding his behaviour?
If so, that would be your department as to how effective it would be. I'm no expert on treatment of offenders or the effectiveness of punishment.
But I wouldn't object morally to the invasion of privacy, if that's what you were wondering. I might even ask you whether, given knowledge of what makes serious sex offenders tick, electric shock treatment has benefits? I'm sure it's been used in the past, and probably still is in certain countries.
Well gone in this country.
All about cognitive behavioural therapy now.
Problem is, theres no real way to assess how effective the cognitive behavioural therapy has been, its all well and good someone saying they no longer have fantasies about rape, but how can you assess it? - thats were Penile Plethysmography comes in, supposedly.
Unfortunately, its unrealistic to keep all sex offenders incarcerated. Prisons are overcrowded now, at 80,000 thousand (last time I checked), think theres 50,000+ thousand on the sex offender register.
It costs at least £30,000 (average around £47,000) to keep a prisoner in jail a year...
So the emphasis is on treatment and management. Still not cheap though, one programme for a sex offender costs £8,000... and then theres the cost of managing them after release.
We need more prisons. I'm all for treatment on the outside for non-aggressive types, which would even include those that have committed violent crime. I think everyone has a potential violent crime in them. Not for serious sex offenders, though. I'm happy to pay more tax to keep them away from society.
But obviously if you're employed in that field, you work under the law and if the current scheme is management on the outside, that's what you must do. Basically, you need ever more ingenious methods to keep them from committing more crimes. I'm sure some methods are relatively successful, but doubt any are 100% successful.
What's the known re-offender rate for sex offenders?
The proportion reconvicted of another sexual offence during both follow-up periods was relatively low: less than 10%, even amongst those who could be followed up for six years
Its actually very low.
Thats from the Home Office, Most journal articles report around 2%, highest I have ever seen being 6%. The figures can be easily manipulated but in general, reconviction rate of sex offenders is very low.

CBT?
I'm assuming in this case it doesn't stand for what i think it stands for .
