Penny for them?

Lets face it, he was already earning around £2.5m a year with us, plus bonuses. Lets not pretend this was a choice between earning a good living or being on the breadline. It bares very little relation to any circumstance any here would find themselves in and I certainly wouldn't begrudge anyone here moving jobs to treble their salary.

Lescott though, if he earns his Everton salary for 10 years (quite reasonable), it would still equate to around £600,000 a year over a 40 year 'career' if he never lifted a finger ever again.

So lets not trot out the line that he was moving to provide for his family or any of that garbage.

Yes, he was an idiot to move to Citeh to make 7.5 million pounds, plus bonuses. Foolish move there. Citeh hasn't figured out how to use the Sheik's money yet but it's only really a matter of time.

It's all relative but in the end, it is the pay stub that matters doesn't it?

Not for me. Money is important of course but there comes a point when you have all the material things you need and other things become more important. There's no guarantee City will win anything. Chelsea haven't won in Europe, despite all the money splashed around, and to be honest if they did get to a standard of winning league titles or european cups then Lescott wouldn't make the team.

I'm a capitalist so should be money mad, but when I see people like John Terry crying out for £150k a week from the club they supposedly love then something is rotten in Denmark.

£2.5m a year will provide anyone with pretty much anything that money can buy you so surely you have to look for other things to bring satisfaction in life.

Don't disagree a bit with that.

Also worth considering that at one point, Lescott thought his career was over.

You can argue the "he was already earning enough money" until your Blue in the face, as you could to someone earning £40,000 a year as oppose to £120,000 - but it doesn't wash with me.

I would have done the exact same as Lescott. If someone wanted to pay me 3x what I was already earning to perform the same job, I'd let them.

Lescott will have felt flattered and important when he was offered the City job. In his mind, all the top players were to be joining City, and he was part of something huge.
Big wages, big career move, and hopefully medals and silverware gallore.
We're not United, or Barcelona etc. Players will be attracted by things that we can't offer, and we have to come to terms with it until the shoe is on the other foot.

I agree with pretty much everything you just said about Lescott. I also see Bruces point.

While he may not of "needed" any wage increse and more than likely would of been able to live the rest of his life comfortably on our wages, pretty much everyone will always want more than they have, no matter how much they currently have.

But i'll be honest with you, if someone offered me treble my current wage to do the exact same job but somewhere else with different workmates i'd have to think very hard about it and right now i don't think i'd do it. Because the most important things for me when it comes to a job are to be able to earn a decent wage to ensure i get by, and to make the working day as enjoyable as possible.

And i earn a decent enough wage already and i wouldnt swap my workmates for anyone else.

But thats just me.

As i said before on here about Lescott, maybe he thought City had more of a chance of silverwear than us, maybe he likes change, maybe he wanted a new challenge. Who really knows. Its too easy just to label him a moneygrabber.

I have no ill feeling towards him whatsoever though.

I don't bare him any ill will either. Maybe it's clouded somewhat by my being a Blue but I don't know. Pip was in the papers the other day saying he'd turn down City even if they did offer him big bucks. Again maybe that's due to his United upbringing as much as anything but I'd like to think that there comes a point in life when you shouldn't simply follow the money round.

I mean lets take a quick show of hands here. If we were all on 40k a week, and Liverpool came in with an offer of 80k a week for you, who would go?

Thats a bit different though Bruce. As I said, Lescott isn't an Evertonian (Supports Aston Villa), and he wasn't going to a rival.

How about "If we were all on 40k a week, playing for West Ham and Aston Villa came in with an offer of 80k a week for you, would you go?"

You've got mail by the way (y)

Thing is though Danny, he may actually of harmed his career going there.

He's had managerial instability. He's not got the players around him he once did.

And also, he's basically got to "start again".

Has he made an England appearance since leaving Everton?

There's a bigger picture than just the 000's on a paycheque.

Look at Michael Owen at Newcastle for one.......

Sure, in those circumstances I'd go to Villa, but both clubs are kinda gash. We're special (y)

He took a risk. He had a choice to make and made it.

Think its too early to say whther its paid off though. And only Joleon Lescoot knows whats important to him.

Death and bruce should have been carpenters (nail on head) I dont buy this move for money, he was held in high regard here.

GOT i would stay at west ham if they made me an international regular and the fans loved me enough to chant my name in the hopes i would stay.
