The phrases "non-medical" and "fashion items" don't inspire confidence. Still - if the mask fits..........see left.

It’s because they aren’t hospital grade PPE and they don’t want to get sued, but masks do help as long as you aren’t close to people for long periods of time.

The Germany masks are boss.

Wearing them when likely to come in to very close contact with other people is fine. Wearing them while walking alone in the street is just pointless.
That's the beginning and the end for me.
Thank you to those presently wearing them as you are doing your bit in reducing any ailments you may have being transmitted to me.
For those who I have seen out in the open fields and footpaths with them on, in fact pairs of people one wearing and the other not, not really necessary.
Just cut out the holier than thou looks as they pass me, that gets right up my japs eye.

Add to that the weapons that just lash them on the pavement, along with their gloves once they’ve been out.

until you touch the mask without realising then touch something that is now infected. Unless you are used to using PPE, they can be quite ineffective.
It's about risk reduction though isn't it, not risk elimination? If you don't have a mask on, you can touch your face and then infect a surface without realising. And additionally you're breathing/coughing/sneezing a higher volume of droplets into the air than someone with a mask on. So the risk with a mask is still lower.

About 0.0005% of the population have died from this, with the majority of those in quite considerable states of ill health to begin with. Don't be daft by all means, but equally, don't run around in a panic.
You've put a couple of extra zeros in there for dramatic effect. it's actually about 0.05%.

there is a bigger picture, it is well known that unless you are used to PPE, people can forget about the basics. In the instance of C19, I have seen checkout people wearing gloves and not changing them for each shopper whereas the checkout people without gloves were using hand gel after each. Guess which one I went to. If you want to wear one, you crack on,

Sorry, we're on gloves. I thought we were talking about masks.

That is exactly the point I have not been making very well in the CV thread.

There is a reason the medics in hospital use them once. Even if for a few seconds.
