Personal Everton Good News Story

I hope for everyone's same you get to see 3 wins. Makes it an even more memorable trip for you and it might get Everton back to a positive points total after the 12 point deduction 😂

I thought I would share a personal, Everton related, positive news story after what was another [Poor language removed] derby result.

I am born and bred in Perth, Australia and in my early 30’s. During my childhood, I spent a lot of time living/staying with my grandparents, who had a lovely couple next door of a similar age. As a kid, I became particularly close with the lady, who was a scouser who had moved across to Australia. She was Everton mad, so at around 4 years old I had my first exposure to them. As I continued to grow up, and became more and more interested in football, I would spend more time at her house watching games or discussing Everton/the premier league.

As I became older, in to my teens, my grandparents had moved and I no longer saw her, but I continued to proudly claim my Everton allegiance. At school in Australia, it was usually Chelsea or Manchester United, so there wasn’t much love for the toffees until Cahill joined. It was harder to watch games at this point, I wasn’t old enough to make the money to pay for the paytv for the games, and they weren’t easily available in Australia at the time. I had to do my best to keep up with things online.

2008/2009, in my final years of school, is when I would say I first started watching every game. With school they weren’t always live, but I wouldn’t miss a game. I’d seen plenty of Everton games prior, but this stage of the Moyes area is when I became 100% invested. I was working, could afford to pay for games or was old enough to find them online, and this became a big passion. I’d say since that stage, there’d be less than 10-15 games I hadn’t seen, whether that be staying up to 1am, 3am whatever was required!

Good news time. Now in my early 30s, I am finally going to see Everton for the first time. I fly out from Australia today, see a few other countries across Europe, before heading in to Liverpool. I am watching Everton vs Burnley, Everton vs Brighton and then heading to London for Palace vs Everton. I thought, knowing Everton, be best to get tickets to a few games to ensure I could see a win! I almost came out previously if we had made the final, when we had the 2 legged League Cup tie against City and were robbed when Sterling crossed the ball from about 2metres out. Wasn’t to be.

I legitimately haven’t been this excited about anything in who knows how long. I have that same giddy, excited feeling you’d have as a kid the night before Christmas or something like that where you want to go to bed early to make it come sooner but you lay there wide awake. I can’t wait to see Crosby beach, Finch Farm, The Titanic where the new signing photos leaked photos always are, the new stadium. I’ve had some health struggles over the last 10 years, but always said to myself I couldn’t die happy until I’ve seen Everton. Now that looks like it’s becoming a reality.

Long winded, personal info dump, but I’m just so excited I had to share it somewhere. Cheers all
Nice one mate delighted to hear your finally getting over to watch the Toffees and be great for you to see the Grand Old Lady before she passes.
There's no feeling like that first time you climb the steps and see the Goodison pitch for the first time..it's spine tingling and at a match under the floodlights it's even more special.

Hope you have a fantastic and safe time and get to see at least one win. (I have ever only seen 1 win in 15 and that was after the 13th time)
Make the most of it and Up The Toffees!!!

Boss, that, mate.

Hope you have a boss time and obviously hoping for 3 wins for you.

Worst case, the 3, inevitable, demoralising losses will give you invaluable insight into what it's really like to be a blue.

Hopefully you do get to see a couple of wins, where else are you going in Europe?
Sorry for the slow reply mate, just Amsterdam, Barcelona, Liverpool and other UK spots. Got a few tattoos booked with artists I’ve been waiting to get in Europe which will take a bit of time at the back end of the trip. 3 Everton games is all I really care about and the reason I’ve come across though

Where would be a good spot for a pint this afternoon before the game that won’t be infested with reds?

Generally today mate the weather is cold but bright so have a walk around there are some cracking boozers , I’ve listed some below. You’ll be good We’re not infested you’re in Liverpool not Oslo mate

To reiterate what so many other posters have said once you see the grass of goodison it’s something special and you’ll never forget that . the only comparison for me is when that siren cranks up, love it especially an evening game under the lights .

So In my opinion You should to do a stadium tour , check your dates and availability but the legends tour is well worth the extra . I know Big Joe Royle is there on the 3rd November .

Give the tower a visit , it’s Everton history and it’s something to remember.

Pubs wise there are loads by the ground and they’ll certainly be busier weekend , lots of people on the forum will tell you lots of things but they all have their charm . Wherever you land You’ll enjoy yourself and people are massively friendly. Why not Try the Denbigh pre game , get there handy make yourself known and chat . people will make you welcome and you’ll feel a little bit more at home . plus after the match for the brighton game there will be a Denbigh disco and well worth a visit for anyone especially a first timer . If you’re going to be in the city for a while it’s worth it as it’ll provide a focal point and some genuinely welcoming and friendly faces within the Everton family for you during your visit .

On non-match days lots of good pubs in the city depending what you fancy . If it’s old school pubs and beer the Denbigh (as discussed ) , the ship and mitre , excelsior along Dale street are all good and the bridewell (Denbigh sister pub ) an old prison is worth it for the setting but is also a cracking boozer . The likes of Albert schenke is probably the best of the new/modern breed . If it’s your thing there are lots of cocktail type bars and even a few ‘hidden ‘ speakeasy sorts . Castle st is a different vibe a little bit less ‘pub’ more restaurants and a couple of bar /gin places but see if it’s for you , whilst both Dale and Castle are a short hop to the Matthew st Beatles ‘experience’ .Very touristy and certainly a bit mad of evening . There are a myriad of restaurants catering to lots of tastes and probably too many to list, depends on what you prefer really . Enjoy yourself and like anything just give me a pm if you’re wondering or looking for help. I don’t post much here any more but I still nip in and out regularly.

I’d certainly visit Bramley Moore as it’s special to see it develop and as a tourist why not do the ferry across the Mersey , this provides some excellent views and the bonus or great photo opportunities of the stadium.

The Albert Dock , waterfront and three graces is an essential stop for any tourist and if the weather is bright , admittedly not what you’re used to , it’s beautiful.

There is so much to do in the city and between blues particularly and Scousers generally you’ll be made extremely welcome.

Did 6 and it wasn’t enough, place is beautiful and has plenty to keep you interested
So, so, jealous. Loved my visits there despite being a non-smoker or partaker in the other legal activities. Some brilliant restaurants, clubs and pubs. Go Winslow as few hours before the game, soak it up. Get ready for your in the flesh, Everton-style, let down :drunk::D

Really appreciate the detail you’ve put in to this mate, gives me a lot to check out! Legend

Barcelona is a great city, I would recommend the bus tour, it gets you round all the sites and you can hop on and off to spend as much time at any particular sight you want.

Appreciate that mate! Only really have a day and a half there as I’m spending a full day getting the sides of my heads tattooed. Think that could be a perfect way to hit a few spots in a day

Score predictions for my first game fellow blues? Keeping in mind, since I’ve been in Europe, we are yet to concede and have a 100% win record… as the old Siggy Statman would say, you can’t argue with the stats
