Always felt gutted for him he never won anything semis with Sheff United and us. Was annoyed at the time Moyes didn't have the balls / tactical nous at Wembley 2012 to play him, Distin and Heitinga and 3 at the back leaving Baines and Coleman to bomb on out wide. Instead played Gueye who was totally out of his depth and couldn't even run with Jags sat on the bench. Could have easily tried that formation in a previous match to see if it worked. A gent and a very underrated player

Really don't get the sentiment over players coming to the end of their careers. This club has been guilty of holding onto players way past their use by date in the recent past. A bit of ruthlessness may give a few of them a reality check

He's absolutely done sadly. But a heck of a defender over the last decade. Never could question his heart or effort. And he clearly had an affinity with the club. Would be more than happy to see him return to the club in some capacity.

If he wants to play every week then he's gonna have to go elsewhere. But that should in no way detract from what he did here.

Sad to see him go, great player for us over the years.

I hate to see players declining at us, though.

He still has enough quality and experience for a club like Sunderland or West Ham.

we have souls?

when it's time to go, it's time to go, but there's no reason to get all Ayn Rand about it. Jags was a great player for a long time, and represented us well on and off the pitch.
If i thought the poor sod was going to have to go into the pub trade and work 15 hour days to keep body and soul together like many of his predecessors then I might find it in me to give one. As it is he has been very well rewarded for doing his very professional best. No need to shed tears for players these days, but each to their own ;)

Top player for us, always a big fan of his boss last ditch challenges. When City spent £24m on Lescott I thought they'd bought the wrong centre back and it proved to be true, played at a very high level for years has Phil. Always remember his Anfield stunner and that Anfield Derby when he had Torres in his back pocket the whole time. Fair play if he wants one more season in the top flight elsewhere, but come back as a defensive coach when you're done.

I'll never forget the stirring HT speech he gave at Wembley -

"It's not you they're booing, Roscoe. It's him".

Hairs standing up at the back of me neck here.

And the post match interviews speaking to the floor with his chin on his chest.

What a leader. :coffee:

Imagine being a manager who gets booed off at Wembley. Following in the Illustrious footsteps of Schteve Mclaren lol
