nein mein frandel. Barry was good whilst he had McCarthy and Barkley next to him, two absolute dynamos in 13/14, and he had Coleman and Baines outside of him and Stones/Jags plus Distin behind him. Basically pace and power everywhere. Even the front line of Lukaku Mirallas Deulofeu was rapid. Barry could use his experience to close the small gaps we had effectively. As the team deteriorated though and we replaced those players with slower players Barry started getting stretched, pulled out of position, ran past, and hassled off the ball.

We currently have one of the slowest teams in the league from back to front with the exception of the front two and Walcott when he plays. We can’t add another slow midfielder to the mix as we’ll struggle to get the ball back. We need legs in every position now. It wasn’t a surprise to me we played a bit better the other night as we had Richarlison and Walcott out wide and Sidibe also effectively giving us 4 quick players on the flanks rather than than the usual 1 (Digne).

We desperately need someone to carry the ball in the middle, to do that requires pace and power.
Without a ball carrier, everything is predictable, and being too predictable will inevitably slow the build up play. With very little creativity and risk in the middle we end up passing sideways more often than not. Eventually leading to crap Football.

it’s not just in the offensive though. Stamford Bridge this season summed it up perfectly. That was a Chelsea side that can be put under reassure and got at but we probably have them their easiest home win of the season, same as with Wolves because we couldn’t physically get near them. It just became Davies Gomes and Siggurdson chasing shadows and when you add in Coleman Keane Bernard it’s such a slow team and the gals emerge if a team can switch play quickly. We need pace and power in every position then if you have an exceptional talent without pace (like Pirlo) you can carry them. If they’re surrounded by slow players though they’llget swamped.

It's genuinely the only thing he's good at but he is still good at it. Same with Pickford and close range reaction saves or Sigurdsson and taking free kicks.
