I was having a look at clubs who have players out of contract in the summer.

We actually don’t tend to sign many free transfers but I do believe it’s a sensible approach. The likes of Juve have done it for years, and whilst there’s a signing on fee, it’s better for the books. Also worth bearing in mind some clubs might look to get what they can in January rather than lose out on a free.

Tarkowski has proven a good signing for us on a free.

He doesn’t give himself contracts. He’s got one agreed and it’s up to him to decide if he’s retiring or wants to continue playing. I’m not sure what you don’t understand.

How come you are the only one who seems to know about this? And none of the usual ITKs made any suggestion of him having his own option to further extend when he signed his latest 1 year extension in June?

Maybe I missed it but I didn't see him create a goal for himself or others. In a side with as much overall team worthiness as ours, he'd drown.
