Players out on loan 2024/25

Armstrong started again for Derby, currently 2 nil up and out of the relegation zone

Another 90 minutes for Harrison Armstrong as Derby beat Preston 2-0 at home. That's four consecutive wins now for Derby after he came into the starting line up (five matches ago). Derby are now 20th, one point above the drop zone.

Still hard to please the Derby Telegraph reporter who only gave him 6/10. "Quietly went about his business all night. For a young lad who is on loan he showed determination and possesses a clear buy-in that fans want to see in a loanee. When Preston came on strong in the later stages, he held his ground and turned in a dependable performance."

I watched a few minutes before our match started I’ll try to watch full match later . He continues to play in the middle of a midfield pattern and it suits him. He didn’t do a lot that I saw but he looks so composed for an 18 year old, moving about the pitch, holding his position. Just getting game time in this division helping his development.

Quite incredible results since Eustace came in and used him.

@blueloon what do you mean "play in the middle of a midfield pattern" -- I thought he was either sitting centrally in a midfield 3 as the deepest player + also hes been the deeper of a pair with Adams.

Ive not watched any Derby games though, just going off what ive read and occasional highlights

Yep just that , I watched about 10 mins of it at the start , Armstrong was sitting centrally and deepest but the whole midfield was strung out in a 5 most of the time , with flexibility to move about , for instance he moved to the side to cover when the ball was there , then back into the middle . Yes I’ve seen that he’s played in a deep two , a kind of 6/8 formation , just giving my view of what I saw last night which was different.

…and in that last England game he was regularly breaking through the opposition back four. I’m not sure of his best position, he seems versatile. Composure is a clear strength but his running power and stamina pleasantly surprised me in that international game. You couldn’t rate him as fast but he’s got decent running power and was still going when others folded.

Encouraging.

Harrison is supposedly getting stuck in defensively which is something I didn't really see during his time here. That is something I think he would have struggled to learn with the pace of the game at this level. Let's hope he takes some of what he has learned into the first team next year. Pleased as heck for him

I’ve watched last nights game, he was certainly putting tackles in when needed , still showing lots of composure to turn out of tight spots , lay the ball off or move forward. He just looks very classy at this level
@Zatara . Eustace definitely has them starting off in a 3-5-2 these days. Armstrong was in the middle , him and Thompson were the ball winners , Adams was playing further forward mainly, dropping back when needed. At 2-0 up with 20 mins to go they took Thompson off , Adams dropped further back to be with Armstrong , presumably the thinking was to close out the game. It’s very positive that Armstrong is not being subbed and playing 90 mins in pressure situations, shows good faith in him, and he’s playing in different formations.

A lot of loans are not the best. This one appears to be good fortune. We picked a team that was desperate for answers and they are integrating him into the side. Sometimes if they are talented enough, they force themselves through. I think he will come into next season very confident and a different player.

The down fall of many an Everton youth prospect 🙁

With the expected squad rebuild kicking off this summer its going to be interesting to see what Moyes does with Armstrong.

The existing senior players at the club as well as the formation might see big changes.

Looks like while hes been getting into advanced positions in the past for Everton and England, he's getting a very good grounding playing deeper for Derby.

I wouldnt say were desperate but its perfect timing for a local youth player to come through -- with the stadium, manager and England internationals playing behind him in the team.

It has been a long time since weve seen a youth player come through and deliver for the first team over a long period of time.

I hope its Armstrong.

Ironically Ryan Ledson was playing for Preston against Armstrong’s Derby the other night. He’s a decent Championship player but around Armstrong’s age was captaining England with great maturity. Sadly he never really kicked on but has been one of the most successful lower league products from our Academy.

I just looked and have some terrible news...

...Ledson is 27 now.

How despressing is that?

Dreadful day for the loanees.

Mason Holgate was missing as WBA lost 1-0 at home to Sunderland.

Harrison Armstrong played the full 90 for Derby but they lost 1-0 at Swansea. Out of the drop zone only on goal difference.

Blackpool's promotion hopes took a dent as they lost 2-1 conceding a stoppage time goal at Rotherham. Harry Tyrer made 8 saves so the Gazette's verdict on him seems a little harsh. 6/10 "Harry Tyrer was on hand with some really good saves but was let down by his defence for the goals."

Billy Crellin shipped four as Accrington lost 4-0 at Bromley.

Jenson Metcalfe's Chesterfield also lost 4-0. He went off after 67m when it was 2-0.

Francis Okoronkwo still injured so missed Salford's 2-2 draw with Gillingham.

Eli Campbell's Ross County also lost at home 1-0 to Aberdeen. He did play the 90 though.

I have seen him a few times and he plays a lot deeper than I expected, almost a defensive midfielder like a Rodri role.
