Is there a "fairer" system that could be applied and replace the existing FFP rules?
This has to be the way forward or it'll be perpetually uncompetitive. If NFL can introduce something more akin to a level playing field, then so can other sports, including the PL. You could have salary caps, you could distribute the prize money equally rather than on finishing position, you could cap Champions League revenue for PSR rules, etc etc.
The problem is, like with European competitions, that there's too much reference to the 'royalty' clubs in this sport, which is what the global customers demand as well.

Need to know what the previous seasons profit was otherwise they should be in trouble for the period 21-23 as it’s a rolling 3 year period.
FYE 2021 they need to have posted around £15m profits.
2021 = ?
2022 = +£300k
2023 = -£120m
Total permitted losses for the period are £105m as I understand it.
Before allowable losses though so not really 120m

£68m.

So it adds up to 187m.

But they could write off 56m due to Covid. So thats £131m.

Then the rest will be academy/women’s teams etc and that will get them under the 105.

Also, Brighton being held up as some outstanding model to follow.

Yes their recruitment is amazing, yes their books are fantastic, yes they are a brilliantly run club but this season its shown that you cant sell 2 top players each season for years and progress. They are stumbling a bit now.

They may pick back up but when 2 of Mitoma, Ferguson, Encisco, Adingra leave this summer its another blow. You can never keep a team together using their model.

Which is fine if you want to run a business, or finish mid table to Europe League places. But not if you want to actually challenge for trophies. That is what the PL want us all to do. Follow brighton to make money and develop players for the 'big clubs'.

They’re basically noughties Everton.

But arguably not as good.

I get the model, I do. But Brighton, like Dortmund and even Ajax to a point have sort of hit a wall. These teams that constantly develop and sell big.

That type of model leaves no room for error recruitment wise. At some point they have to stop selling the best players and add to the team instead.

I think the PL is approaching a critical time. They can continue as is and leave their preferred six to sweep all before them for eternity. Last nights Sheff v Gooners match proved the point. Or they can make changes to level the playing field. Trouble is they happily brought us to this point, with pressure from a few clubs only interested in maintaining the status quo. Masters and his mates are [Poor language removed]. Sooner or later the others are going to take their footy home.

If we are looking to keep the league competitive I'm convinced that limiting match day squad size to 15 and going back to 3 subs per game would dramatically improve things. Go back to a senior squad limit of 22 as well but unlimited u21s.

None of the opportunity for 'interpreting' the rules that comes with an accounting based system. Less forced than the American systems.

Good players would be less likely to move to a team to be a squad player if there's dramatically less chance of getting on the pitch week to week, which means they're shared more fairly around the league.

Dramatically increases the luck factor around player fitness and injuries etc that big clubs have sought to mitigate with their bloated squads full of internationals and their pleas for 5 subs per match to keep the 'quality' high. It's all just been about creating rules on the pitch that reduce the luck factor and increase the control their money can exert on the outcome over a season.

and have a quota of home grown players in the team/squad, say 1 who has been with you since u16, one from u19 and one from u21 in th match day squad, as said above, match day squad of 15 with 3 subs
