Can anyone advise me?

I was spotted driving our car last week with no insurance. The cops saw me and I knew they had, but I was very close to home so drove it there and parked up on the driveway. Ineviteably, 2 mins later, knock, knock and I'm stuffed!!!

The thing is, they've reported me for summons AND compounded the car from the driveway, even though its registered in my hubby's name. Tbh, I felt at the time that perhaps they couldn't take it but what can you do? But then I spoke to a pc who was very surprised at it being taken from the driveway, although he wasn't willing to comment further (obv).

Its £105 for the compound fine and then £12 a day, plus we've got to produce in Huyton and the cars stored in Bootle (open only 9am - 4pm, fella reckons "just tell ye fella he'll have to take time off work"" - tit), so we'r going to pick it up tomorrow, but just wondered if any of you had any ideas on whether compounding from the drive was legit?

Ps. This is a one-off, I'm not a scally!!

Is right luv, power to the people and all that.

Wish I had the bollocks to do that, I pay £231 a month (yeh lads, I know I have mentioned that about a million times but i had to get it in...)

Dennis, cheers for the helpful remarks and interesting psychological insight into my comments posted to those coming out with precious drivel like yourself, very commendable!!

For the record, AS I'VE ALREADY STATED, I didn't know I had no insurance, i've got 4 kids I drive round and would never in a million years knowingly put them - or anyone else - in danger, so the comment of 'I knew the police had seen me' was meant to show that I knew I'd done something wrong, but didn't know what. Obviously, with them not stopping me on the road, I thought that the funny look they'd given me was in my imagination.

I really didn't post the thread to hear higher than mighty views on reckless and irresponsible uninsured drivers, it was merely to see what anyone thought of the police taking the car. Rest assured, it was a genuine mistake that I've got no problem in dealing with. Nice to know you can be relied on for sensible input though, well done.

Why don't you contact a solicitor and ask his or her opinion regarding the car being seized? To me it sounds a bit harsh. But the police would surely not have seized it without the knowledge that it was legal to do so. But I know the police can be a tad premature sometimes. Maybe this is one of those situations.

As far as your case goes, you haven't a leg to stand on. Ignorance is not accepted as a reason to break the law.

Boys, thanks very much for the advice, just to let you all know, the car is back where it belongs, insurance is once again in place and all is well. We just paid the compound charges - like someone says, why bring extra hassle your way when you're in the wrong???

Dennis, no offence taken, was a bit shocked by the bluntness of the posts, but thats what I get for being a new poster and an (inadvertent) uninsured driver. Let you buy me a pint at Fulham to keep the peace....

Gutted tonight...COYB:(:(

stapo i'd love to have that pint (8 bells?) but sadly i'm working on sunday & will miss it - but i hope you guys have a great day & we finally emerge victorious from a pl match at craven cottage - we certainly must be due!
