This is one of the worst injuerys a footballer can get. 4 months to get back......... Not a chance. I doubt if he'll ever play again..!!

Really unlucky for becks, he's been a top player for a decade now and a true pro.

Amen to this mate.

Anybody who mocks such a player does so with envy. This lad is still the best crosser of the ball in the world, and has won trophies with the best of them. Winning the world cup would have been the ultimate for his career.

Make no mistake folks playing in the world cup meant far more to him than any salary he may pick up endorsing stuff.

Feel bad about the situation, but not sorry for him. He's 34 and has had a tremendous career that has already included several WC's; I'm guessing his career isn't over unless he wants it to be. He'll rehab and probably stay with LA. (y)

Shame as he's always come across as a decent fella.

And the consummate professional.

Regardless of injury, I hope he goes as part of the squad.

No matter what we may think, the players genuinely look up to him as an inspiration. And rightly so.

Even if injured, I would have him as Captain, screaming down the touchlines.

Hard luck for him, but he's no great loss to England really, is he? A deadball specialist who'd never force his way into a WC starting line up under Capello. I'd have taken SWP, Walcott and Lennon over him every time.

And that is why I am glad you are not a manager. :P

Summa you cant see forest for trees. He was written off by both England AND RM, so he signed with MLS.
.. and THEN?

The whole point is that he ALSO is a great WORLD ambassador, such as he is, for England Football and the passion of it.

Who would you RATHER it be in front of mic and on-screen? Wayne Rooney? John Terry?

Heh... I can easily make case that he wasnt the most effective MLS star import during the time, GBS was .. and is. But that doesnt matter, he made the commitment to increase Soccer's image in the US and I hope he lives up to it.

Go back to LA, David. Buy the freakin' Galaxy if that's what it takes.

Joking aside, I was hoping David would do this. There is a rule that an active player can't own a MLS franchise (hard to NOT laugh while typing that.... that's a rule?? And they thought hard enough to think to make that a rule? )

I don't know what the current team valuations are if he was looking to buy an existing team, but the rumor on the street was it only takes $30M for a buy-in to the MLS league (plus all the approvals, stadium issues, etc). Beckham could easily pull that together, if buying the Galaxy from AEG outright is not possible. There is the chance that AEG holds on to a team like the Galaxy forever - didn't they own like half the league when it started?

At any rate I would love to see Becks get in on MLS action from the other side of the table: ownership! (y)

(of course all this is for when his MLS playing career ends, which I hope is not yet)

Hasn't he shut down some of his soccer schools as they weren't financially performing?

Ownership.... of Galaxy... an exciting prospect then

that is true, and lol!

I don't know enough of that situation to know the circumstances though. The reasons for closing could have been many, plus i don't think Becks himself actually ran it - i think it was just his name & money.

Running a youth soccer camp in the states (for profit) is like running an ice cube booth at the north pole though - horrible business prospects!
