Positives of Big Dunc/Rooney

Both can organise defense as well as attack,
Prioritise winning games rather than just the amount of passes a team make,
Both take the time to coach attacking and defending set pieces rather than ignoring them as unimportant.
Neither habitually use the word ‘phenomenal’ to describe the crushingly mundane, i.e; ‘Cleverly is a phenomenal player’

Not Benitez.

Everything else is romanticism on Everton behalves.

Rooney, to his absolute credit, has done amazing at Derby. But then you remember that Derby have a free hit this year, Rooney cannot lose.. if they tanked, he can fall back on the “well, my resources were limited” and if he succeeded he’s a miracle worker.
The players, they’re all playing for contracts, and they’ve all stepped up. But they’ve been written off, and subsequently they have nothing to lose every game.

Derby in administration is a lot different to Everton in the gutter, at rock bottom, in reality. I think it’s too soon for Rooney, but he’s done well.

Ferguson, is there anything to suggest it’s good other than he’s passionate? He was lucky against Chelsea, every single fan was desperate for it, and it’s more telling of what a rocking Goodison can do. Love the bloke, but 6 managers he’s been with and no one knows what his responsibility is.

I expect Ferguson to get it to the end of the season, but I’d wait until the Villa game, because if we get a hiding it’ll turn toxic extremely quickly, again.

Phenomenally is a clever player too lest we forget

Good points about Derby tbf. I'm admit to being very impressed but you are right, sort of a free hit and not a standard situation. However at least he is sticking it out in a lower league and proving himself as a strong leader yet again. This gives him an extra point for me over Dunc but at least Dunc will get fans united in the short term and help wash away the toxicity even for a day, which may work wonders and is needed badly

I'd be disappointed if Rooney bailed mid season on Derby. He's gone balls deep there and is doing a cracking job and would hate to see him turn his back on them when they need him most.
Don't think he will but we're Everton aren't we.
Same here. And if we give it to Dunc til the summer it would be harsh to replace him with a younger lad he mentored, especially if he did a decent job.

Not got a problem with Rooney, and I know you’ve got to reserve judgment, but after an initial good start, he did struggle with Derby last year and they stayed up on the final day… it sits in the back of my mind.

If I’m choosing Rooney or Ferguson, I’m choosing Rooney all day, personally. Rooney has went out there, to prove his point. Ferguson has stayed at Everton and doesn’t deserve the job anything greater than on an Interim basis.

I just feel frustrated because once again, we’re not looking far, we looking to known heads and it’s not done us any favours in the last 25 years sadly!

Same thing I just said, doesn’t make sense for Rooney to bail now. His stock is only rising, and if he manages to keep Derby up, he’s walking into a Premier League job, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Everton.

Rooney can come here, struggle, fail and be back to square one. Or wait until the summer and seize the opportunity.

He seems to be excellently advised, so I’m sure they’ll be telling him to stick around, very few opportunities in professional football are pressure-free like he’s got at Derby.

Yeah , have to say I’ve historically been hostile to Rooney but he has impressed me with the way he has approached the Derby job.
While I wouldn’t be totally averse to him coming back here (better than brown shoes anyrate) , I’d respect him more if he stayed and finished the job where he is currently.

I'm getting bad flashbacks to RM's interviews reading these! As for set pieces, if we replace a 15yr old set piece set up with a no set piece set up it would have to be the most Everton that thing ever
