As discussed here, we've today started trialling a new post rate system.

Previously members could 'Like' a post. Now, they can 'Like' or 'Dislike' ('KOF') a post. Those who have been posting for a while will remember it being similar to the rep system, but without the ability to comment.

The developers reckon it;

  • Increases daily posts.
  • Improves signal to noise ratio; less short/unnecessary posts
  • Improves quality of posts (posters want to avoid negative ratings)
  • Makes lurkers useful for something and gives them a means of interaction
And, it can help self moderate - there's a setting that allows 'x' amount of dislikes to place a post in a moderation queue.

We'll be tweaking the system over the next week or two to see if it can work. Be mindful that if we notice people taking the piss with it (targeting members etc) then we'll revoke access and it'll be a mark in the against category for the feature...

There's a school of thought in the world that posters who moan about getting negged are fully aware that they'll just get negged even more.

This then gives them something else to moan about, which allows them to attract attention to themselves. They know all the attention ends up taking up moderators time and they hope that the system will then be shelved.

It is only a school of thought though, and I make no judgement on it's accuracy ...

He's nailed you there hasn't he?

'Playing The Ref'
Attempting to moderate the forum by stating what should, and shouldn't be discussed or attempts to get another user banned by posting things such as "abuse! ban him!" is totally unacceptable, and will not be tolerated on this forum. This is basically the internet equivalent of a footballer waving the imaginary yellow card at a referee, and is completely unhelpful. If you see a post that you believe is in violation of the forum's Rules and Guidelines or Terms of Service, it would be highly appreciated if you could use the "Report to Moderator" function to bring it to our attention.
Is that like telling people not to post in threads ?

There's also a school of thought that negging people to make them fume is popular among 12 year olds.

Oh, for sure, it's a bit juvenile, but only 12 year olds, or adults with a brain the size of a pea would fume about it though.

Actually I think we may have found a commonality between the fumers between us here SC. Nice one !
I stopped maturing mentally at twelve so you may be on to something here.
