As discussed here, we've today started trialling a new post rate system.

Previously members could 'Like' a post. Now, they can 'Like' or 'Dislike' ('KOF') a post. Those who have been posting for a while will remember it being similar to the rep system, but without the ability to comment.

The developers reckon it;

  • Increases daily posts.
  • Improves signal to noise ratio; less short/unnecessary posts
  • Improves quality of posts (posters want to avoid negative ratings)
  • Makes lurkers useful for something and gives them a means of interaction
And, it can help self moderate - there's a setting that allows 'x' amount of dislikes to place a post in a moderation queue.

We'll be tweaking the system over the next week or two to see if it can work. Be mindful that if we notice people taking the piss with it (targeting members etc) then we'll revoke access and it'll be a mark in the against category for the feature...

Apology accepted. May I suggest that buying a cat may be cheaper than hiring a therapist ? You can either stroke it to make you feel calm or boot it up the arse to relieve your frustrations.

In the coming days I'll be removing this plugin.

I think it's been a very useful exercise in allowing us to trial if it's feasible and to stress test and understand exactly what we need prior to commissioning a bespoke plugin that works.

I was also pleasantly surprised how little aggro it caused, but the aggro it did cause demonstrated perfectly what a suitable replacement would need.

This one isn't feasible from a moderating perspective, and it can be enhanced from a user perspective.

One is in the pipeline an will replace post ratings soon.

Genuine thanks to all who used the feature as it should be
