Why is there so much distrust of the PL, if I am understanding this?

You would almost have to assume that there would be malicious intent here, and let’s not leave out the safety concerns.

It strikes me as a bit sad that all we are talking about is the competitive part of this story as if the spread of a disease that has caused so much devastation is less important.

Can anyone see that POV for a moment?

Everton are being made out to be monsters for asking some pertinent questions about the process that we were specifically excluded from, even though we were hosting the match?

I'm glad the club have asked for full disclosure, why shouldn't they?

If you really believe that about the testing/timing, and that only the pl should be held to account, then I don't know what else to say to you.

Surely someone at city could have had the common decency to pick the phone up and talk to Everton officials whilst everything was going down with the pl.

Looks like spurs were part of the process with fulham, and I am sure we would include the opposition if we were the team having the covid outbreak - so why do city and the pl think that they are special? Wouldn't have anything to do with money would it?

I mean the City fans getting wound up by the statement.

I too am glad the club have asked why they weren't provided with the full info - and demanded the info.

It's all down to the Premier League, ultimately.

There's no evidence that anyone broke protocol.

These things happen. They could have got it going to the shop, or by a family member going to the park and walking too close to a heavy breather, for all we know.

why am I on the everton fans forum desperately trying to defend the actions of my club?

If City and some (not you) of their fans hadn't behaved in a questionable manner you wouldn't feel the need to be here

I am here to hear your side, because I am genuinely curious and maybe will learn something I am not aware of to get a clearer picture.

I want to be fair.

I believe I am trying to be reasonable as that is the kind of person I try to be.

If it turns out there are reasons to criticise Everton then I don’t think that means I should ignore them and just because I’m a City fan does not mean a criticism is wrong.

I can also criticise City.

I have indicated that I’ve considered this possibility and said that I do not believe for one second that City are without any doubt completely innocent - as I have gone through the exercise if considering City delayed announcing cases to get the game postponed.

City consult with premier league about calling off game with Everton due to covid and are told "no". They ask again and somehow, magically, everything changes. Only problem, Everton never included in discussions. Everton ask for further clarification due to not being included in discussion. Everton now bad for asking for clarification. Crazy world.

It's all a lot of fuss about nothing really isn't it. Everton are totally within their rights to ask the Premier League for clarification just in case we find ourselves in the same situation. I will say I can see why you all are frustrated with what happened as well.

Wish none of it had happened so we could have just played the match.

It’s not good for us, btw, long term as City will have to play at least 2 games every week for the rest of the season, and a good chance of 3 games at least once.

We were also on a good run after a poor start.

Some argue that whilst you are in good position in the table, you have key injuries and those players may be back when the game happens.

Anyway appreciate the feedback and discussion.

Everton are in their right, sure, but there’s a lot of complexity about doing so publicly and the way they did, and there are other reasons to consider/criticise this given safety.

What complexity? What are the consequences of the statement?

City fans feel EXTREMELY victimised from the media over the years, and of course going back to issues with United’s fans treatment towards them for generations, but very much also about the feeling about how the club is portrayed.

So whenever something seems like it plays into that fans get very upset and feel it further justifies this. Even fans who don’t share the vitriol can be attacked. It becomes a siege mentality, that I will say makes a lot of sense to me, because I can see it too.

We all can see things easier when they make sense to us, even if they aren’t always entirely true in every instance.

It relates to how City are portrayed vs. Liverpool for example. Actually City fans as far as I can recall generally have had more adoration and respect towards your club and fans prior to this.

If you canfor a moment to step into the shoes of what City fans feel you can understand this.

There have even been writers, respected ones, who have pointed this out so it’s maybe not just a delusion, but based on what is experienced and seen. That’s how people come to their views.

I am genuinely trying to do that here and am listening. Sad tribalism that makes football fun at times can also lead to more negative aspects.

Presumably three extra players tested positive Monday Which is why we weren’t given any notice until late.

These three players must have been in contact with other players in the squad. That’s the reasoning why city was so concerned with evertons safety as not to risk it and play Bc a large amount of their squad had exposure to these three that tested positive

Then why isn’t the rest of the squad isolating. It takes more than two days from exposure for tests to pick up positives. If these players were even exposed on Sunday, everyone they came in contact with should still be isolating.

But today they are all training. You can’t be the shining light for concern and safety on Monday and forget about it on Wednesday. This stinks to high heaven and Everton should be demanding answers

Isn’t this a public relations campaign to garnish empathy and make both the PL and what seems like City look bad?

Why no positive words towards City about the cases then?

That seems odd to not include if you aren’t coming in with some kind of suspicion about them as a club, which seems to me that you full well know about their reputation.

If you had a problem with what happened why go public and not directly behind doors to the PL? Did they? What happened, if so, that did not suffice?

How you can know for sure Everton did due diligence here for certain I would love to be shown evidence of. Genuinely.

I don’t think any club with all of the millions of pounds at stake during a pandemic that decimated finances and economies would would completely be immune from influence of those pressures in their decision making to gain a competitive advantage.

do you not see the irony and the hypocrisy here. in one breath you accuse everyone of trying to make city look bad and in the next sentence attempt to do that exact thing to everton. worse still you use a statement we made to the authorities and because it doesn't include a token (false) thoughts an prayers comment you make a mountain out of that mole hill of an issue. seriously that seems odd to fixate on, desperately throwing mud at others is embarrassing..... and before you ask no I couldn't care less we didn't include a token statement wishin your players a speedy recovery.
