Football is a laugh on wee messageboards, but are you really going to let what footy club you like dictate your views towards the British state and the monarchy?

If you as a Liverpudlian want to call the Hillsborough disaster/justice for 96 "branding" then that's your perogative. Like it or not, tragedies do enter the folklore of clubs - see Busby babes or Franco suppression of Catalan language, culture and identity. We live in a capitalist world which will then leverage these "unique sellling points" because our world is ill-adjusted, but that doesn't mean you just opt out and become apolitical/aloof as a result. Dignity, man.
No but thats exactly the point, they do let it dictate, its like they have a how to be a Kopite rule book and this is what you have to do, follow the rules, this is our identity if you want to fit in and Scouse Not English is a big part of it
Also the justice for 96 is nothing more then "branding" now, they use it as a rally cry, have flags and badges with it on, it hasn't been about the people affected by it for years

They pulled it because they feared the brand might be damaged. No one back in George VI day was arsed with brands or what it meant.

This is a purely commercial decision based on a fear of dissent from football fans. Such are the times we live through.
There’s a big reason for that, there wasn’t as intense a media scrutiny in the 50s as there is in 2022, not to mention there was no internet or social media. It would have only taken a minority of voices to ruin a silence or the National anthem and boom, football gets condemned

So it gets condemned. And....

Reckon it will be none.

Transportation next weekend will be a nightmare with people travelling to the big smoke for the Merry Griefmas day on Monday.

Police will be busy doing the prep work for it, just can't see any games next weekend.
Then there should be no games played outside London then either.

Mate you don't speak for "everyone". What the English Tory establishment has done to the city is fact. The few to enlist like Nadine Dorres and Theresa Coffee are the examples to avoid.

I’m not disagreeing with any of that. I’m no fan of the Tory establishment or the royal family by any stretch of the imagination. But the social media “scouse not English” thing is cringe, and that’s exactly what it is, it’s bravado for social media. And when I say “everyone” I’m talking about people from outside the city, I can confirm everyone thinks it’s painfully cringe.

You don't speak for everyone though do you? Who cares what a few West Ham nuggets think? It's a statement of fact that's all. I'd love to see the whole of Goodison sing it loud.

All footy will be back on from midweek. Championship for definite. Not sure of anything that clashes directly with the funeral on the Monday but even then presumably just the Monday night game at worst
