Potato Cakes....good or crud

Potato cakes are excellent, especially when just golden brown and crispy on the outside. Try them with Sainsbury's vegetable hummus on the side. :P Consume with a light Pinot Noir from Burgundy. Delicious.
i can see it now in the good wine guide.....a great accompaniment to spud cakes !! is it an irish wine or one from leigh ? the slagheap at bickershaw gives great drainage producing a grape that has an earthy almost carbonic taste, it is the black diamond of the wine world. shunned by locals in favour of mild or even a pint of mixed.

They're also nice with smoked bacon & fried egg on top, i'm bloody hungry now and can't get potato cakes out of my head :@

What about crumpets or muffins.......................we need a vote

Crumpets are sensational, dare i see a serious challenger to the potato cake.

Well my old mate the world has been asked to decide, brains of EFC fans are working overtime on this most importatnt topic(y)

I see you like to live dangerously Lass, Cheshire would it be?

Don't mind really but Cheshire doesnt grate very well, a bit too crumbly. When I'm out and about with work I call and get my local cheeses from a place near Nantwich. They also sell home made pickled shallots that blow your socks off. The farmer's markets dotted around Cheshire are excellent for cheeses, bacon, hams......yum yum again!

I like crumpets too as long as they're done on the fire. Still got my granmothers toasting fork for er, toast and crumpets!(y)

Warburtons. Popped in the toaster for a minute and a quick stroke of Clover on them. Food of the gods.

My missus hates them. Strange woman.

Once bitten an' all that!
Don't have an open fire now just a wood burning stove which is okay. My grandmother (fy'n nain as she was Welsh) used to cook practically everything on the range. Chips, bacon, eggs. She could also cut the thinnest of thin slices of bread in a straight line without having one end 2" thick and the other end all falling apart.
Happy days as a child for me but a life of hardship for working class people of that generation.

Same here Lass, the old back entry and the stench of cats piss and my nans ubiquitous chip pan always there, always ready to heat up. She made chips to die for and when the fat was cold you'd take the crust off the loaf and lay on the old dripping with salt and pepper, basic food but all that could be afforded, it was bloody nice as well(y)

I can't believe that some have never heard of a potato cake. Some ponce on one of these cookery shows will make them, pretend they're his and they'll allo want one(n)
