Wasn't that the clattenburg derby where he said to moyes something along the lines of "there's no way I'm giving a last minute pen against Liverpool"?

He didn't ref another Everton game for years.

I remember after that game Moyes absolutely tearing into Clattenburg. Moyes never got fined for this. Every other single time a manger has been fined for slagging off the referee by the FA or EPL. Nothing happened to Moyes at all and he's basically calling Clattenburg a cheat.
Think the EPL wanted it brushed under the carpet as quickly as possible. Probably even dodgier than that twunt Poll in 2000.

Yes they do.

Only under the standard PPG calculation Bournemouth go down. If they use the weighted one i.e. the one that uses home and away averages, then West Ham go down and Bournemouth stay up. Sporting integrity though......l

Don't think sporting integrity hold any weight anymore until the PL admit restarting the league is all down to money pure and simple.

The scumbag was not given a match the next week and shortly after he was linked to a liquidated company, so cash pressure. I was at that game, we all want decisions but as my mate put it 'sinister' Moyes always kept his mouth shut before that, but he knew as well

Disgraceful refereeing by both, but imo nothing can top that blatant cheating by Poll. Absolutely disgusting. The Clattenberg penalty call as clearly also horrible, blatant bias officiating; allowing a football player to not only dictate a refereeing decision but overturn one!

100% right that he wasn't to be seen for a long time after that.

Just shows what goes on, and that's not forgetting Kuyt's kung-fu tackle on Neville in the very same game which got him a yellow card instead of a violent conduct three-game ban. And as luck would have it, he was the one to score his second penalty of the game after Gerrard awarded Liverpool a penalty.

They had more penalties in that game against us than we had in a decade against them.

I know we generally horribly bottle games against them and almost always rightfully deserve to take nothing from them, but we really haven't had any help whatsoever from any officials along the way, while Liverpool have. Rodwell red card on Suarez, anybody?

That Rodwell one happened right in front of us, Suarez screamed so loudly you'd have thought he broke his leg. He really had play acting down to a fine art.

I've been very vocally against any attempt for the PL to start back until deaths are WAY down, and tests are widespread.

But seeing Germany come back today has got me thinking about the (mainly) football side for the first time really.

My overriding thought on this is the pointlessness of most games if we do attempt to bring it back, which goes against the risks involved in doing it in the first place.

What is there to play for apart from relegation?

In our case, we realistically maybe have an outside chance of qualifying for the lowest Europa League slot in 8th, providing City's ban is upheld.

But who honestly thinks that competition is happening next season? Same for the Champions League.

To include the lower ranked team they usually start it in early July, likely before the Premier league is even finished. And before international travel is remotely possible. Think of how many ties there are to play across the continent? The rounds where Aberdeen play etc. The idea they'll get played is laughable really.

If there are any European competitions, I'd be surprised if they are "qualified" for in the traditional sense.

So what really is there to play for beyond the relegation places? Could some kind of relegation play off be the answer if they REALLY need to get that side sorted?

it'd be a way of reducing the risk, but of course it's all about money so we'll likely see pointless games behind closed doors. Leading to avoidable deaths where people gather to watch games together where otherwise they may not have done. Not to mention the risks to players' families

Can anybody - ANYBODY - enlighten me as to the spectacle of German players today, after 90 minutes of mask-free, distance free football, 'kicking boots' with the officials instead of shaking hands? It looked like some bizarre rendition of the hokey-cokey!

And the balls were disinfected at half time?? So, no possible risk from the ball in the rest of the hour and a half, but kill the germs after 45 minutes for God's sake!

You couldn't make it up

Of course, the BBC reported it, along with minute by minute text commentary, as if it was Brazil 1970... absolutely breathless for this grand affair to be repeated here. Hurrah for our German friends! Hurrah I say!! Pip pip!!

Certainly agree that it's highly unlikely we'll see any European competitions next season, but I think UEFA should guarantee anyone finishing this season in an automatic qualifying place should be allowed to enter in season 2021/22.

I still can't comprehend that one it was clear as day rodwell got the ball first. Shame really rodwell was playing excellently up til then never really recovered from or confidence after that
The sending-off was later rescinded, wasn't it? No help to us of course, losing after having to play three quarters of the game with ten men.
