but that's where they spend their money. It's only been recently (Ferdinand onwards) that they've spent anything on the defence/keeper. most have been cheap options who've turned out to be good.

the whole thing about the 'class of 92' wasn't about the star players, but it provided enough 'just above average' players that the transfer budget could be spent overloading the front line.

To be fair to Martinez, Kone did have a relatively good season at Wigan so maybe it was a case of signing someone who he knew.

Doesn't mean he isn't woeful though.
