Swinging from one extreme to another, the Internet way.

This oscillation is self-amplifying, too.

When there’s a bad spell, and the doom-mongers feel justified in posting their doom, the pushback from the other side quickly gets just as insane - like some of the shouts that we ought to be happy with a 14th finish because “poor squad.”

It’d be really lovely to have a tempered debate. But the medium just won’t allow for it.
Spot on, it is the same with the players too. We class them as world beaters one week and Rymans league the next, no accountability at all.

At times I wish we were Bury

If your midfield pairing can't compete then you are unlikely to win. It's not singling them out, because their role is to win the ball and move it forward. They weren't able to do so.
You literally blamed 3 areas of the game solely on them, when those things are not really their responsibility. Certainly seems like you are.

Poll sums up yje game. Townsend was the only player who was up to it. aybe Gordon as well in the first half. The rest were awful with Kenny, Godfrey and Holgate in particular topping the stinky pile. Hope Pickford is fit soon as Begovic is emergency cover at best.

My worry is, I've seen the same issues under different managers, management and players. It's almost like it's a part of the club.

Lack of movement - players get the ball and immediately have zero options. Meanwhile, other players are STOOD watching, instead of moving into space or offering an option. This doesn't take skill, it takes commitment and willingness.

Closing down - We give teams so much space, they are free to run at us far too often. Again why? It's not a skill, it's commitment and willingness again. Any player is capable of doing it.

Tempo - we NEVER dictate the tempo, we play to the teams tempo. If it's fast football, we panic and play fast. If it's slow and dull, we don't overload them, we also play slow. Why aren't we dictating games?

Those 3 things are easy to solve and easy to implement. Change those 3 things and we've got an entirely different game. It doesn't take skill or expensive players. In some ways, it's a positive that we could very easily change our own fate. But it's also a worry that we simply won't/can't.
The players aren’t good enough to dictate the tempo and close teams down. Not any player can do that because when you close down you are committing and that’s when really good teams will fight fire with fire and trounce us.
What our players do such as Gomes for example or even iwobi is allow the other team space and time and let them play in safe areas and that way they don’t hurt us. Problem is they’re biding their time but the end result is just the same.

For someone who purportedly 'lives and breathes football' and has lived here for 10 years, you would hope he realised the extent of the problem before he signed the contract, everyone on GOT did, and some of us are blithering idiots. No names, no packdrill! (but they usually have numbers in their screen names).

He probably also thought he would be a able to clear out more deadwood sooner which would have freed up more money to bring in more depth.
