The only other answer that would be a bone of contention is the last battle fought by Vikings on English soil, I have accepted the standard reply but a later battle was recorded at Brumbro, no had been able to trace where that was, historians thinking that the remaining Vikings would flea from the east coast. They are now 90% sure that the battle was at Bromborough on the Wirral.
After Stamford Bridge Harold's army marched south to face the Normans iat Hastings the remaining Vikings fled to Wirral which was then a Viking enclave. Historians have underearthed details of local miltia aided by some of Harolds forces battled with those Vikings, driving them into the sea from where they fled to the Isle of Man and Dublin, both Viking strongholds, but that would be splitting hairs
On the Wirral former Viking settlements are especially noted by places ending in 'by' 'kirk' and occasionally the shared 'ton' which became town of the Celts. You will remember Upton, Greasby, Frankby, West Kirby, Thurstaston (Thors stone funnily enough)
The idea was to give the lads something to do over a gameless weekend until
Any way end of history lesson.
