Homepage Article Rafael Benitez Appointed Everton Manager

Bit of a difference, Hickson went from Everton to Liverpool and Sheedy was a reserve player at Liverpool.

By all accounts Benitez is a Liverpool legend, they have banner of him on the kop.
I agree there is a difference but who decided what was acceptable? If there is a rule book, please share it with me.

I didn’t want Bentiez, far from it. But the man is willing to lose his reputation with them over the park to manage us. More than Carlo Fantastico did when he packed his bags and got off before the door closed…

Nobody will be bothered if he fails , I mean that seems an odd stance for blues to take . I will say if you don’t know a single blue who is animated about this then you’ve definitely done well , I might Even be a little jealous lol

I understand your squeakiest wheel comment on the internet but mates taking is different isn’t it ? It’s general conversation when you get a better picture of where someone is , over a period rather than in quickly typed messages .

like I say maybe the group of people I know are in no way reflective of the Everton fanbase as a whole or even the match going fanbase . It’s certainly the impression I have at the minute but if your experiences are vastly different perhaps we or they are an anomaly.
I didn't say I didn't know anyone who wasn't against him, I said they were in the minority.

Honestly, no one I know wanted him but that is a million miles away from being dead set against him. I think most recognise that given the managers available we got a reasonably good one and that that slightly off sets the massive let down of it being Benitez.

Personally, I'd have been in your position of loathing this appointment if it had been Moyes...or even worse, Ferguson.

I dont care about Benitez - Ild want him gone by this Christmas if we weren't competitive.

Not saying there's a rule book but to not see the stark difference between signing a Liverpool reserve player and a Liverpool legend who is on a downward trajectory in his career, is being a bit blinkered.

I don't want him here either but there's nothing that can be done now. Just get on with it is my attitude.

That’s the same with any Everton manager no?
some of the reaction I’ve seen is embarrassing. One fella told me he wouldn’t renew his season ticket if he got the job. Guess what, he did. Surprise surprise. People need to get over themselves and support the team

not to sound like a comedy character yeah but no . It is the same but with a lot of the fanbase this fella has zero credit in the bank, none . So if it’s about winning matches, and it is , if we aren’t in it together and it doesn’t start well then it won’t take long fit things to go badly awry .

I’ve seen people say they’d be angrier if moyes or Ferguson got the job well I didn't want either but if they got it or Managers a,b and c and any of them of Benitez started this season with 3 points from 5 games then the crowd would still to a degree be behind the manager with the exception of Benitez and that reason as much as his recent record is what drives my concern .

I genuinely have no real issues with him as a bloke , his comment doesn’t bother me at all really and he seems to have an attachment to the city and charity and His man management style could possibly be what we need but the risk of toxicity is really a major concern .

Too much being made of style of football, I just hope whatever we do we don't look clueless doing it. For years we make transitioning from defence to attack look like we are free climbing Everest in a t shirt. Practically every other club make this look simple in comparison.

Absolutley spot on, don't care what style or tactics as long as we do them well.

Unless Brands gets off his deckchair and makes some pretty impressive signings quickly, we won't be playing like Brazil 1970 anytime soon, it will be more defensive dour grindy footy with benitez, as it was with Ancelotti the liar, so just make sure we do the basics better, and hopefully don't look like a team of strangers as we have for many years.

Some will be moaning and groaning when we aren't on the front foot at home games.
Of course there will be and it’s accentuated by who he is , in my opinion it’s delusional to think otherwise but if he wins matches he’ll probably be ok for a while at least . The minute he doesn’t win for a couple though I think it’ll swing quickly against him . The owner knows this and decided he didn’t care we find ourselves here .

A solid start to the season should hopefully draw some poison and calm a few nerves but it’s hardly what you normally feel with a new msn in the dugout .

Excitement and anticipation are building. Looking forward to see what signings are made. Last season was a farce for obvious reasons. 21/22 should reflect rising public optimism evidenced by the current Euros cup. Of course the top 4 or 5 will be roughly the same at the end. Hopefully we will get closer in Rafael's first season.

I don't think anyone is expecting anything other than pragmantic defensive football.
Our brave lionhearts are so skilled and so ambitious of victory that I fear they may 'down tools' if their extraordinary speed and attacking talents are fettered. I think the new manager will try to take advantage of our brave lionhearts' vastly superior fitness (the fittest in the PL?...I think so). Barney had to scarper off to Madrid primarily because there was a massive balls-up in the choice of this upcoming Blue Chrimbo's pantomime choice: The Mikado was just too complex theatre and I believe it really played with our lionhearts' heads. The new manager's first managerial decision should be to ditch that and maybe just do an adaptation of 'The Santa Claus' with lots of pixies and elves and fairies

I can see our team of absolute winners might leverage that toxicity.
