Incredibly difficult man to warm to isn’t he.
He'll warm the cockles of my heart with good results. Carlo was a lovely man - and then surgically inserted the stainless steel with precision through our shoulder blades with nary an apology or even a raised eyebrow.

Very much negativity here. Come on, it's a new season, new opportunities. Rafael is nobody's favorite manager, but we must at least give him a fair opportunity. We also have no other choice.

I like to look at it as we have a squad that has underperformed over several years, and played football without any kind of intention and passion. The football we played under Ancelotti was pretty much awful to watch, not only aesthetically, but it was completely devoid of energy and aggression. Many of the players have also been written off by supporters and "experts". I like to think they have something to prove.

Rafael is a manager who is very clear on how he wants his teams to play, and how the players will perform their roles. He also makes clear demands, and the players must be in very good physical shape. I like to think that this is a good combination. A team and players who have been a bit confused, who have underperformed and who have something to prove, and a manager who is very clear on what he expects.

I therefore like to think that we will be a team that is difficult to beat, a team with intensity, aggression and that has character. This is what characterized us under Moyes, but which over time has been pulverized. But this at least gives us a solid base to work with, and that we can develop the team further. At least those are the expectations I have ahead of this season. Of course, I will most likely be disappointed, but such is life as an Everton supporter.

It will be the biggest irony if our least feted manager manages the basics and gets us up the table.

I've a feeling he might. You know why? Nope, it's nowt to do with logic or reason. More to do with it being the sort of thing that happens to Everton. The eternal torture of being blue. Even if we do well there is always a 'but'.

A cruel truck of fate: we'll do well but it'll feel all wrong so we can't truly enjoy it. Everton, that.

*grunts and squeals*

You've been on the managers back all summer mate! lol

Here's a revolutionary idea - maybe judge him on the season's performances instead of attacking the rest of us for having a bit of patience and understanding of the clubs dire situation at present?
Believe it or not , and I know it’s a not, I intend to do that . I didn’t and being totally honest don’t want him here but he’ll be judged on games and performances but not with a ridiculous number of caveats and certainly not with the unconditional love more associated with mans best friend .

once more in case you’re struggling to comprehend it , I hope we win comfortably tomorrow and that he then goes on a ridiculous unbeaten run to the extent we’re you’re frankly unbearable.

Ancelotti had been at the club for 18 months and had spent £65 million.

Benitez has been at the club less than 2 months, not managed a single competitive fixture and has spent £1.5 million.

Maybe give the bloke a chance eh?

I'm too disillusioned to be patient with people who I don't believe have the ability and credentials to move us forward.

Until they prove to me they are capable, then I won't be backing them

miserable experience reading this forum

Fanbase is toxic at present - sooner the footie starts up again the better for people's sanity.

What they dont realise is Benitez isn't some one night stand like Alladyce was who after a night of passion we sneak off in the early hours of the morning - this bloke is here for the next 18 months minimum so the sooner people accept that the better it'll be for everyone.
