It was one of the worst cameos I’ve ever seen on a football pitch, it’s really not worth defending.

Again, I didn't see the game, I haven't seen how he performed. I did however see the result and the clean sheet.

Me saying him or JPG being brought on to bolster the midfield vs Watford was and still is a very reasonable opinion.

I've never suggested he's a midfielder nor I want him to start games there.

Again, did we concede or lose because of him playing in midfield? Roy Keane got sent off once maybe United should have never played him in midfield.
You do know that response makes you sound like a tit right?

Jagielka once played in goal and didn't concede. Should we have stuck him in goal more often then

Wow.

So you are disagreeing with not playing him there but didn't see the game anyway? ??????

Least I know not to talk about it with you anymore.

I only saw the highlights, but he got sent off for a rash challenge and the only chance Spurs seemed to have came from him losing the ball in a bad area.

It looked like a bit of a nightmare 10 minutes. I just don't think he's very good. If there is any interest for north of £10m then we should be looking to move him on.
Arguably the worst substitute cameo I've ever seen for us. He's really gone down hill this season. Looks like he's lost either confidence or focus.

This is a bit of a reach to be honest

Holgate's performance was beyond him just having a bad day at the office

He looked completely lost out there and didn't seem to know what he was doing

It would be a huge gamble to play him there out of position in a Premier League game again, regardless of whether he's done it well before

The Keane comparison would work better if he played for United out of position and got sent off specifically because he didn't know what he was doing and he'd already bolloxed a bunch of things up before then

But I never brought up using him vs Spurs? I don't know the state of the game when he came on, I don't know if we were overrun in midfield etc. Watford game? Yes, I still say him or JPG should have came on when 2-1 up.

Frankly the fact he brought him on 0-0 at home to a gash Spurs side instead of going for the win with an attacking sub says more about the manager again.

If you can't see the Keane comment was tongue in cheek I can't help you.

If you had seen it then you wouldn't want him near that part of the pitch again for a LONG time

Trust me

He was completely cack for the 10mins he was on the pitch. As bad as he possibly could've been!
In fairness there have been plenty of shouts on here before about him playing there, all off the back of one decent display against manure under Dunc.
Yesterday maybe killed off the hope that that was anything more than a flash in the pan.

Not that ideally we want to play players out of position but perhaps he just had a bad game and we shouldn't react to things so black and white. We've had subs before that have come on (in their actual position) been crap, done nothing but get sent off - it happens.

You can understand the sub, fresh legs, more protection for the defence, another one to head away free kicks/corners yet just because he never got up to speed and had a mere it's meltdown time in here...again. It's on Holgate to do better and I'd imagine if he had his chance again he probably would. Let's just hope Delph stays fit, Gbamin gets better, Gomes and Doucoure are back asap so we don't have to find out.

Yeah I was wanting him or Gbamin on in that game too. Bringing him on in midfield v Spurs just made the decision not to do it v Watford even more baffling tbh.

Benitez doesn't have many options so I'm not going to leather him for the Holgate sub tbh

It was an iffy decision, but our squad is thinner than coconut milk right now, so it's not like he's spoilt for choice

Hopefully he's made a note of it and we can kick on

I'm now convinced more than ever that we need to dip into the loan market in January though, because our squad depth is bordering on criminal

Again, if you had seen the actual match you wouldn't be arguing this point. Holgate was utter tripe

I like Mason too and have no ill will towards him, but I don't want him near the midfield following that, even as a sub to see out a game

It was THAT bad

Keep him in defence

But I'm not asking for him to be turned into a midfielder. I said, during the Watford game, him or JPG (an actual midfielder) brought on at 2-1 when we were being sliced through the middle could have helped.

That is not an incorrect statement.
