I think we'll have a much better idea of where things are heading at the end of January. It sounds like Benitez knows what he wants in terms of signings, so it'll be interesting to see who arrives and who departs.
For what it's worth, I think up to now he's done about as well as I expected. Some positives in that he identified weaknesses in the squad and tried to fill them, and we also had a couple of battling performances. On the other hand, he's made us rubbish at set pieces and hasn't been able to do anything about the fragile mentality of the team.
I don't think the way he's set the team up has been terrible - switching Townsend to midfield was a decent idea, in my opinion - but equally he hasn't done anything particularly clever that's made the difference in a game, and he wasn't able to prevent collapses against Villa or Watford with tactical changes.
That aside, I don't like him (who knows, maybe he's a good person, but he's always come across as slimy and arrogant to me) and he's never going to inspire the fans in general because of his history. My only hope really is that he has an inside track on some Spanish talent and creates a decent side around that. Otherwise, I can't think of much to look forward to.
