Every point is critical at the minute. Despite his short spell as Everton manager, Senor Benitez needs to start putting points on the board again if only to buy time to continue going through this rancid club like the dose of Iberian salts that he is.

He is the necessary laxative that we need to flush the likes of Kenwright and other charlatans from the body politic of this club.

Let the purge continue! Viva El Enema!

I’ve said before he’s the enema the club needs. He’s survived the dreaded death spiral of these players playing games and an injury crisis. Both are over now and we’re in mid table. He’s safe as houses for this season now.

All talk should now be on which wasters leave in January and who comes in. For me I’d like to see Davies moved on,

We already have wingers, it is a left back that does not get roasted and concede many free kicks that we need. Digne hasn't fitted that criterea for a long time. Putting in a few decent balls into the penalty box doesn't make him a better defender. He is a vica versa player. First season he had both his jobs down to a tee but since then he has deteriorated drastically as a defender and slowly as an attacker
Oh and they've really been creating all sorts of chances lately haven't they?

I mean, firstly, because of injuries, perhaps, though even then that's up for debate, Gray and Townsend have both been playing central a lot lately. So they haven't been playing as wingers. Gordon can't cross, so that's all of our crossing options not playing where they can cross. Our other 'winger' has been Iwobi, who is the only one who should play central, if he plays at all.

So while those wingers weren't playing in a position where they can cross, then our best crosser in the squad should probably have been given the freedom to attack, shouldn't he?

I agree there... though Moshiri last forced a player on the club in Iwobi. That was 2 years ago.

He trusted Carlo and clearly trusts Benitez. I worry on that front because I don't trust Benitez with more money. I think he's a bit like Moyes in that sense. Good on a budget at finding players but if we have £15m to spend in Jan I know it's gonna be on Longstaff and Ayoze Perez on loan.
It was a long time ago, but was reading an article in the Echo about the 64 players Benitez signed for Liverpool. Tbf to him he got almost every one of the bigger money signings right. The fact there was only two which stood out as not being value for money was an eye opener (Aquilani and Robbie Keane fwiw)

A last 10 minute desperation push by the players and crowd paid off. Great.

The sum total of Benitez influence on that was precisely zero.
and this

the Gomes sub was it

and if we'd have conceded the two goals we should have done, then we'd have lost - very harshly so. I'll be kind and say maybe Iwobi scores that third so it's 3-3. Wonder who'd have got it in the neck then?

Did you see that list of his Newcastle and Dalian signings, though?

Don't think that's true mate. We can debate how much of the expenditure in the Brands era that Brands was actually responsible for, but in both gross and net terms we've spent more in the Brands era than we did in the Walsh era, albeit the Brands era was 18 months longer.
oh yeah fair point, I meant as in what we know Brands probably spent on 'his players'

I'm not defending Brands. I just don't feel comfortable with Benitez taking us forward is all.

I get your point, but even using those examples, Perez went for 30 million to Leicester on the back of his Newcastle form. Longstaff was on United’s radar for a massive price before his injury.

I don’t think Benitez would go for those players now, he’d try and find the next ones we could develop up hopefully.

Gray and Townsend have been good additions and what the squad needed. He’s got a far better idea now what the players are like and what’s needed. He can’t really do worse than what’s happened before, lets just let him get on with it now and judge him when it happens.

Longstaff is nailed on in Jan.

Haha that late goal must of HURT
Nah, that late goal was pure Everton Bliss, that's what we want, nay, demand, its not too much to ask for that type of 2nd half performance and I for one didn't expect it, so will gladly hold my hands up but we are a way off out the woods yet but it is huge step in the right direction.

Build on it and fantastic.

I will never be hurt by an Everton win

But I will also stand firm against a poor manager. Its just one win currently, he has much more to improve on.

The really important thing was he was able to get a performance tonight. As long as he can do that every so often, he'll buy time to continue his reign of terror. James, Donachie the physio guy, Brands... He's only warming up. This club has been way too cosy for way too long. I hope he burns that culture to the ground in his time here.
