Don't know if he can survive another 2 games if Digne's deal become stagnant. Hence no extra money and not enough time to spend, so to launch 1M bid on Longstaff as reinforcement consolation ?!
Somehow his managerial appointment deserved to be hanging by a thread, all his previous tenures built around a strong spine. From a good GK, to 2 complementary CBs (commanding CB + mobile CB), to all-round balanced CMs, to a lone CF. Not only maintained enough possession and control, but created so much freedom for wingers or wing backs. Just wonder why he failed miserably here, probably by vastly underestimating the quality of his current spine?

It may also explain his obsession with Rondon (but he's aging and within a weak spine, just didn't pan out). His long-term preference in 4-2-3-1 / 4-3-3 for a strong spine to 5-4-1 interchangeable 3-4-3. No wonder the incident happened with Digne by the belief captured below. And possibly explained why it's so divisive even within the 11 players on the pitch. Not mentioning thousands of fans scratching their heads wondering what happened. He didn't trust some players at all, so freedom being deprived till they get out of the slump or forming better spine with new players?
