The squad is decimated, Dave. We couldn't see off QPR tonight. Norwich are on a dreadful run. Fail to win that - and why would we be confident of a win given our absentees - and the atmosphere will turn. It's not so much Benitez for me, but Brands and the way the club has been run. Benitez is simply a conduit for a lot of frustration and anger at how we seem to be in a perpetual Groundhog day no matter who owns the club.

I wouldn't be confident of a win on Saturday. And, frankly, given our squad depth, I think we're going to be in a constant state of heightened anxiety throughout the season as injuries bite. Brands has been a catastrophe for the club. Benitez didn't help himself tonight with the line-up. He got caught between jibbing it and going for it. picked a half-hearted team, and still, it seems, ended up with an injury. I'd have had more time for his selection had he put out a team of kids. Either that or go full blast with Doucoure, Keane, and Gray. He did neither. He deserves flak for that - and I think he's a sound appointment.

Most of all, though, I think we have reasons to be seriously concerned because our squad proved themselves sub-Championship level tonight. The likes of Iwobi and Gomes are disastrous wastes of money and space, while Kenny, Davies, and Holgate are simply not up to it. Godfrey looks utterly raw. People say he had COVID. He gets a pass from me only if he was vaccinated. He has lots to learn and needs to start doing it quickly. We're in very choppy waters. This could go south much sooner than people might think...
We'll beat Norwich at home. They haven't got a point yet. And we'll be in a very decent league position.

We have an injury crisis that will settle down...and that's why it was a shoulder shrug for me tonight going out of that cup: we cant afford to waste energy on it.

We'll be ok. Despite starving Benitez of funds he'll still get us into the top half. Even if he doesn't and we get as low as 12th or so he's got that season.

We need to see big sales next summer and Benitez left to spend the proceeds.

DSont like all that? Look to Moshiri/Brands not the manager.

Lets not pretend the knives were neverv out mate the same suspects are moaning when we are winning never mind losing! lol

Let them moan on social media Goodison will still be behind the fella and top 10/12 and he's save as houses with this board whilst BMD is being built.

Sooner people accept it and get behind the manager and players the better it'll be for their sake as it must be misery supporting us at present for them.
This is our hope for the season??

Yeah and I think this was a more important game to win than Norwich, as mad as that sounds.

I think Benitez could have got away with a 2-0 win tonight and a 2-2 draw against Norwich, more than the other way around.

I think that's a hefty blow for him. Another embarrassment for a fan base sick of embarrassment, and one which he 100% owns the responsibility for. Tonight was avoidable; he decided not to avoid it. And a club that hasn't won anything since 1995 once again gives up the ghost in the League Cup in September under one of the most divisive managers we've ever had.
Give it a rest, if we keep on losing you’ll be happy as you and other will get their way……quite sad reading this from Evertonians

This is utter nonsense. A 2-2 draw is not an embarrassment. And anyone who thinks winning an early round tie in the LC (before the elite take it seriously and mow everyone down later on) is more important than 3 points in the PL need to have a lie down.

Three points v Norwich will have us looking very very reasonably placed with our injured to come back after the United game and international break.

After a decent start in the league, what are the players being rested for? I can understand why the teams in Europe do it. I can understand why the teams fighting relegation do it. Everyone else should be trying to win a cup.
Most were rested because they are injured, some others because it's a dangerous game to over play the few we have available

I wish I could feel like others. These are the results that make me physically sick. Losing in the league is routine. These results stay with me.
The Martinez Semi-Final was the last time Everton hurt me, after all the pain over the years, that was the 1 that broke me, since then, im just numb.

I mean I enjoy the good times, but the bad just wash over me, I have reached Everton Zen.

I know mate, but the risk I suppose is if Doucoure pings his hamstring then that's that.

All it does is expose our squad and recruitment.

that team tonight should still be good enough to beat qpr. My issue is with everything that people have said Benitez is good at actually not being there.

He's got us running around a lot. Yayyyyy. We're mostly very crap at footy though.

Can ping his hamstring tomorrow in training mate. I get what you are saying and some players need managing but if there was a player needed in midfield tonight it was Doucoure. Digne was probably the one who needed the rest as he's had international games, hes our only left back and playing Godfrey at full back would have been understandable.

I agree though, we have periods of quality but generally its all running and no real control of possession.

Was just a soft decision from Benitez tonight. I dont think hes a stupid man, so surprised as his aim should be getting results and getting the fans onside for the long-term.

I've no issue with the manager - I just think he has bitten off more than he thought he had. Come next summer, Richarlison and DCL will probably be off or want out. Now, I don't think either is anything special, but Benitez had better spend that money well because if Brands spends it we are utterly goosed. I think Norwich will get something on Saturday. I just don't rate our squad at full strength, let alone decimated.
