The last one in Ancelotti last season, mate. He had Pickford/Richarlison/Calvert-Lewin etc starting against Fleetwood. He only really dropped Coleman/Doucoure. Not to mention a full strength side against West Ham in the next round.

Koeman did vs Sunderland even when we had Europe that season.

But a few also haven't and they've all been wrong to treat a domestic cup with contempt. I lost it with Marco Silva when he pulled the same stunt against Southampton and we lost on penalties. Good news though - we finished 8th that season. Worth it I'm sure. To be fair to Silva, he got a lesson and the following season put out a full team against Lincoln and Sheff Wed.
None of whom were available yesterday.

If we had all players available last night and Benitez started the game with that XI I could see the basis for being upset. But he didn't.

The captain and only RB at the club, the GK, the number 1 and 2 strikers plus bodies like Delph all out and seemingly way off coming back. That meant that the PL had to be prioritised because more injuries to that lot would be catastrophic.

Ilm not one of those people who thinks that we're too good to be dragged into a relegation fight under the wrong circumstances - we have no strength in depth and need to prioritise getting to safety first then build from there this season. That's back to the Moyes philosophy, but then again we're back again in the Moyes era spending bracket now.

We have a DoF who has orchestrated a disaster at this club in terms of squad quality and we no one in good conscience can blame this manager for eyeing up the Norwich game ahead of that one last night, even though he did eventually give a run out to our best avaialble by the end of the night.

Absolutley no blame attached to the manager on this for me.

Look at the line up we put out v Salford in the first game of that. Kenny , Delph, Nkounkou and Bernard also started v Fleetwood.
Thing is last night we hadn't the option of picking pickford, Coleman, dcl or richy either

We didn't, which as I've said previously here made it even worse to still rest Allan, Doucoure and Gray. We were already up against it.

The argument of "no Everton manager fields a strong team" doesn't wash - Ancelotti put a stronger team to Salford and Fleetwood than Benítez did to Huddersfield and QPR. Koeman likewise. Silva put out strong teams to Lincoln and Sheff Wed.

Benitez treated the competition with contempt - we're not good enough to do that.

The blame for poor results doesn't rest solely at him, for reasons we all know, but there's never an excuse for going out to a lower league side.

Can’t say I enjoyed his post interview much, working hard is a bare minimum requirement and with the greatest respect we were playing QPR, a side in the championship.

All mangers rotate in the early rounds of this competition. In every single club .

Let's be honest, it's just Doucoure and Gray he left from the squad. We don't know what their fitness levels were post Villa which was a tough game, especially for Gray who had to play up top after Rondon went off.

I would get if either of / both DCL and Richarlison were available and he left them out why you'd be fuming, or if we'd went out on pens with Pickford available. The reality is the squad is quite injury stricken now and we already had questions about some of our 2nd strigners.

Didnt watch it tonite but if he olayed players and they got injured would be the same he would have people saying why didnt he rest them. Thing for me is we give these players a chance over and over again and thing is some of them simply not good enough.

And both first choice centre halves

At what point are people going to accept Godfrey and Holgate are not our best defenders? They were abysmal last night and are enormously overrated on here.

Keane and Mina every single day of the week
