You pay wages but for FFP the initial outlay in fees paid is the killer and where we couldn't budge. We moved players on so wages were freed up. Bernard, Kean and Bolasie leaving is all that allowed us to bring anyone in at all.

The club is horribly mismanaged. Pinning it on Benitez is ridiculous. Yes, he made bad calls today. Yes, his zonal marking is abysmal. But this is largely the same bunch of cowards Carlo Ancelotti couldn't get a tune out of, and it's the result of the incompetence of the club, not Benitez.
The bad call was to employ a divisive manager in the first place to manage a fairly useless bunch of players and then compound it by not having any money to spend.

None of it is his fault but as soon as the crap hits the fan nobody remembers that and it gets nasty.

Our club is mad though. Our record signing has been redacted and we have two players worth a combined 50M who have been permacrocked since they got here (Gbamin and Tosun). That's close to 100M there and none of them are even that good anyway!

That's before we even start looking at our other big money "stars".

Shambles.

Are you a kopite? Not calling you one, asking you if you are.

How can Jones of this blame be on benitez? He insisted on rondon who has played the last 6/7 games and trained for months. He is now as match fit as he ever will be. The defence is arguably the same as last season.

Our midfield was missing doucoure but davies played regularly last season as well. Rodriguez was a big miss today as he can actually create things. Which is a benitez choice.

Team isn't much worse, if at all, than what ancelotti had to deal with at times last season and he never conceded 5 at home to newly promoted teams, unless I am mistaken?

You have thrown out the fact we lost 5:1 to man city away last season previously as an argument against Ancelotti. That's nowhere near like conceding 5 at home to Watford.

Behave you've not wanted Benitez from day one and are loving this.

I saw this coming when we limped out the League Cup - I said at the time Benitez needed that competition to survive a rough patch, as there's at least a silver lining as long as we were in it.

He has nothing to fall back on now. He has a nightmare run of fixtures and he'll be going into Christmas almost certainly a dead man walking with the club in severe relegation peril.

I said in the match thread this felt like a relegation six pointer today - I wasn't joking. The stars can so easily align for this to get very, very ugly.

Sack sack sack sack sack sack
You're right, he never should be here. I've expected that he might have a relatively good start (and he almost did) but it was so obvious he never bring us to where we all wanted to be. Being a person who was absolutely against Benitez being appointed and considering that as a huge waste of time and money, I do think that sacking him now won't solve anything in the first place.

No we didn't. He was given £2m to spend. He brought in Gray with that money and Townsend on a free, and Rondon.

If you're going to slate him for Rondon, you have to applaud him for Gray and Townsend. You choose not to and focus on Rondon because of agenda driven bollocks.

In reality, it's got nothing to do with Benitez that we have a situation where we are going into a summer with FFP peril and can barely spend a penny.
He was given full control of every transfer decision. Not how much we had to spend, I didn't say that. It's like you've purposefully misunderstood my point?

I'm not saying he's wasted the money. We weren't able to financially back him until late in the window and for whatever reason, couldn't get the deals done (Diaz, a right-back etc).

However, with the money we did have, he was given the autonomy on how to spend it. He wasn't convinced on Dumfries, and then we probably wouldn't have been able to buy at that stage when Inter came in any way. He didn't want to spend anything on AMN, only a loan (fine). He decided he wanted Rondon as Rondon was moved for in July, but Dalian turned it down as they wanted money.

So he has autonomy on the transfer dealings. All it does is make Brands' position more ridiculous.
