There is no doubt that Benitez was once a very decent manager but the king of deflection is a dinosaur having achieved nothing of note in the last decade.

Moyes is demonstrating with West Ham that his career is on an upward trajectory and that as a coach he is able to adapt and get the best out of players that he hadn't necessarily signed.

Most of those have not featured heavily under Benitez because they are not good enough or have been unfit this year too.

For us to miss Richy and DCL for so long this year is crippling and add in our only real driving midfielder and it’s a disaster.

Even the clubs fighting for the title have dropped off when just one of their key players have been out and they have players on their bench who are already better than our starters.

Well Richy missed as many games at this stage last season as he has this season.

DCL obviously massive who's missed 6 of 9.

Doucoure has only missed 1 of 9 this year whereas Allan missed 1 of 9 last season.

So DCL, the Championship level striker, is the only real difference between last season and this season after 9 games.

Any excuse thrown at Benitez this season I sure hope was thrown at Ancelotti last season.

lot of hyperbole in this thread, I won't call for his head yet but obviously he has to improve. Hopefully he realizes the absolute jokers he is dealing with and starts to pull rank and throw some of them to the curb.

I've never been a Benitez fan and always thought he was the wrong man for the job.

However thought we had a decent start to the season beating teams that traditionally you would expect us to beat and showing glimpses of a discernable style and identity and much improved fitness.

But the managerial display yesterday bordered on the comical;

1.Continuing to defend zonally when we keep conceding from set pieces
2.Taking off Gordon
3. Not taking off Rondon
4. Not changing shape when at 2-1 up we were getting overrun in midfield.

Conceeding 5 goals at home to anyone is bad. However conceding 5 to Watford who are crap and to concede 4 goals In the last 15 minutes is unforgivable.

Worst of the lot though was the way that Benitez threw Gordon under the bus in his post match interview.

It summed up the man and is why I despise him.as an individual and why he is totally unsuitable to be our manager.

The master of deflection won't accept what everyone has seen and instead tries to blame a young lad. Disgraceful.

Godfrey is just the latest expensive defender who cant defend. 25m for a player who looks all over the place.
Every single defender we have cant be trusted to do the basics. There are times you wont get midfield protection and its time to do your job. Defend.
We saw yest exactly what we have. Absolute kamikaze defending.
Unless we're going to park the midfield right in front of them then we're in real trouble until we buy decent defenders. And our track record of that in the past 5/6 years is abysmal.

Not sure why the tactical genius of the fanbase think putting a defender in midfield or a player who hasn't played for 2 years is the answer here.

Or even putting some kid in there that has never played at this level is suddenly going to turn into the next big thing.

The same defenders did well under Ancelotti.

Sure there was plenty wrong with his team in the 2nd half of the season but very interesting that they become terrible when Benitez gets his mits on them.

Holgate has played in midfield before; it's not a complicated role for 20 minutes. Win headers, block passing lanes, stop letting them run through us.

Maybe every UEFA Pro License people get their common sense levels just disappear.

You cant have ambition for the club to improve and support Rafael Benitez as manager of Everton. Support for the manager means we won't improve.

Until our support start having some standards then we will continue to see debacles like yesterday. The club cannot succeed while it is so divided and we need to end this failed experiment as soon as possible.

I'm certainly not calling for Benitez to be sacked just yet, but any more performances like yesterday and it won't be long til he's gone.

I know we have a terrible squad of absolute cowards that he is working with, and he's had a pitiful transfer budget following Marcel and his shockingly inept performances, but anyone excusing Benitez from having anything to do with that debacle yesterday needs to see a doctor soon - he got so much wrong from minute one it's really concerning.
