As far as I'm aware Ramadan has been around as long as football, why making such a big deal out of it this year as opposed to other seasons. Plenty of Muslims over the years have had sports careers during Ramadan and never made a fuss.
Whilst I think faith is important, I must admit that I am a little bit concerned that our midfield trio will be fasting for some weeks to come with some tough games on the horizon. Food is not too much of a concern, but its more the lack of fluid throughout the day which surely must have some impact on their body especially for professionals athletes. Not sure though if they have a dispensation for at least some fluids of some sort.

Fluids and food as fuel is essential for athletes in recovery and performance just 2% of body loss can affect performance and 5% can decrease the capacity to work by 30% so it’s very worrying that our full midfield are all fasting they can’t afford a drop in performance at the best of times.
 
Suhoor is the meal eaten before dawn on each fasting day, while Iftar is the meal eaten after dark to break the fast.

There are five main prayers each day: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha. Here are the London timings for each prayer, along with the sunrise and sunset times for each day of Ramadan. Find timings for other cities here.

Issues with Ramadan Fasting in Football​

One of the main components in athletic or soccer performance is the provision of proper fuelling and hydration techniques, so this becomes an issue to players during this Ramadan phase.
Available literature has suggested Muslim soccer athletes or footballers training & competing through this period may face performance decrements as a result of:
  • Changes in circadian or bodily rhythms
  • Changes in sleep patterns
  • Duration of sleep
  • Reduction in blood glucose or energy levels
  • Reduced daytime fluid intake and subsequent dehydration
  • Injury
Pretty sure Athletes don't need to follow as strict a fast, for that reason

Seems more noise about this than not previous seasons, and I’m pretty sure when Gana was here last time his performances were not affected (in fact I think he played really well) during Ramadan.

The lads will be allowed to drink etc, there’s no way they can do the job they have without hydrating.
