But the sad truth is he'll be judged on his first bad/ordinary game.Until he's played a run of games at centre back we can't judge him. I heard.
Whilst he's been on the pitch he has been at fault for 100% of the goals we've conceded. Clearly useless.Have we ever lost a game that he's played in. There's your stat.
He's the Gibbo of defence. Until we lost with Gibbo in the team. To City..? (I think?)

Notwithstanding the fact that, yes, he was partly culpable for the Reading goal (although such a peachy cross should never have been allowed to come in from that angle, which in turn is down to Martinez opting to play Lennon at RB instead of giving Pennington or Browning another run out), let us bear in mind that he was/still is a virtual unknown quantity.Definitely.
I think people are going a little OTT about him. He looked way off the mark last night imo. Of course, understandably so.

He played Tuesday in only his second appearance in English football, and in a slippery cup tie away to a championship side on a damp midweek night no less. I watched the whole game on a surprisingly crisp Arabic stream (albeit the only word of the commentary that I could decipher throughout was 'Al-Habsi') and he did not look fazed one bit. He kept going; his fitness was not an issue; he started in an unfamiliar role; made the switch to CB without blinking; and almost all of Reading's attacking play came down our right or the centre (which I personally find telling in itself).
If we are applying the same standards to all our players (think Stones, Galloway etc.), then arguably we should not be judging him until next season at the earliest. He never asked for his £9.5m price tag and the baggage that goes with it - that pressure burden is for Martinez and the board to bear, something I feel the former is very good at whilst the latter are customarily anonymous in their ivory tower.
In the meantime, as supporters (from the root word support i.e. to uphold and sustain [a person through good or bad]) I do not for one second regard giving the lad a chuck up as being in any way a bad thing; certainly not going OTT. He is a junior player - indeed a squad player - at this stage in his Everton career. Let's get behind him, same as the rest of the lads, and at the very least temper this focus-on-the-negative, hypercritical analysis that seems to be in vogue lately.
There was one interception he made while playing at CB in the 2nd half where he read a pass that came to their forward in the middle of our half from the top left corner of Reading's half/top right of ours, and he sprinted about 10 yards to get to it before their player, and the touch he got on it took it straight to one of ours. That reading of the game, burst of pace and composure to not scythe down their bloke (he wasn't half moving like) but instead start our own move back up the pitch was a moment of defensive brilliance.
That for me showed he's got what it takes not just in terms of ability, but crucially, in terms of attitude and application. He seems to have the same mentality as Strac, but with the skills required too. Good on you Ramiro lad, more of the same and you'll fit right in here.
