Rangers v United

You must elaborate on this.

I was at a Celtic do in Celtic park, when midway through 2 IRA men were announced to the bar and celebrated like heroes. This was attended by many of the Celtic board, and they were announced by a member of that board.

A very close friend of mine lost his son in their bomb. Which is why i found it more disgusting, and why i wont discuss it any further.

Well, that's pretty bad to say the least, and I'm sorry for the loss. Those tricks are more than offset, though, by for example Rangers players officially going over to Belfast for charity events for Unionist causes/Orange Orders and posing for pictures with killers like Michael Stone.

As I say, you cant rely compare the two clubs, imo. A policy of discrimination was in place at Rangers...no such policy has ever been there at Celtic.

Maybe I'm not in a position to comment on this, but really, I don't think a reverse pissing contest is in order. It doesn't matter who's worse than the other.

The fact is, there are fans (and seemingly representatives) from each club, that have condoned unspeakable acts of pure, disgusting evil. And that makes me a little bit sick.

I agree. When Andy Goram played for Rangers he was often in the Rangers club on the Shankill singing disgusting songs.

I also agree about the policy at Rangers, though i was talking about the fans, and not the clubs policies.

I hope both sides never make it into any potential British league, because there is no place for bigotry in sport.

yet another tedious rangers bashing post by davek.

pat lafferty played for rangers before celtic were even formed.

I could give a flying one about Rangers, tbh mate. I'm not really obsessed/upset by them as you imply. The club has made giant strides in recent years and has dragged itself into the modern world despite the backward tendency of a proportion of their fans. I respect people like Murray and Souness who had no regard whatsoever for 'traditions' and drove a wrecking ball through the old Rangers way of doing things.

As for rangers signing people who were Catholic: the odd one or two slipped through the nets over the course of a history that goes back to 1873, but they were exceptions that proved the rule. Alex Ferguson's biography tells how it was at that club when he pointed the finger at the board for having him isolated and sold on for marrying a Catholic. There are hundreds of similar tales. You cant seriously be suggesting it wasn't a problem at Rangers.

i'm not sure you don't give a flying one about rangers, just look at the way you started this thread - it was all about big bad proddy rangers rather than any interest in the game itself. lets be honest the hernandez thread you started the other week was along the same lines too. look you don't like rangers and i don't like celtic it's hardly a crime is it?

you used the term knowingly signed a RC and i doubt if rangers had a policy as such in their early years but as they eventually became the standard bearer for the protestant population of scotland, an argument any RC's acquired were not known to be RC's. anyway the Mojo signing that you seem to refer to was important and seems to have paved the way for many catholic players, even manager and captain since, i wouldn't say it was a rubicon moment though.

You're right, I dont like them but that's not the same as being obsessed. I could give slightly less of a flying one for Celtic, tbh. It's all *up there* for me. If they're in the news I'll comment.

This is a complete nonsense. The whole of Scottish society were on Rangers' case: The Church of Scotland, Law Societies, trade unions and political parties trying to get them to reform their ways. It was the biggest elephant in the drawing room of all time. Whatever your dislike for Celtic - and I acknowledge there are reasons - you cant place the two clubs (clubs, not their supporters) on an equal footing in relation to bigotry. And the Murray/Souness revolution was a 'rubicon' moment. Qualitatively it all changed at organisation level at that point...though, of course, it takes years for that to permeate to fan level.

Fair do's here like, Ezekiel:

i can only see the third image ('least we forget' flag), so what?

i was agreeing with you to a point on the second paragraph - just put it badly but the mojo deal was not the point of no return.

ynwa davek, celtic bits and bobs are on view at anfield too.

What a bizarre response to a good news story. FFS, mate.

i could only see one image and i won't click on the evening kopite website. it just looked to me like you were trying to score cheap points with a 'liverpool/rangers relationship' over the stadium disasters link flag (the only image i can see), which i take it is not the case. hope this clears it up and apologize if it seemed a strange reply.

still can't see what it was but i take it it was a 'good' story. This has surely run it's course and we will just end up in an endless squabble which is pointless as we both see things from a different perspective and this subject can become tiresome.

Fair enough mate. I didn't mean for it to get out of hand.
